July 2008
After spending a few days in Washington DC, we drove up through Maryland and into Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania rapidly
became one of our favorite states to date - a beautiful land of rich fertile farms, magnificent forests and interesting
and historic towns and villages. We also passed through some Amish country and although we didn't stop, it was interesting
to see these peaceful folks going about daily life without motor vehicles and most of the modern conveniences we take for
granted. Emma and Erin were particularly awed by the Amish children driving the horse and buggy's on the streets.
A 2 hour drive took us to one of the places we knew we definitely wanted to visit during our time in the US - the national
military park at Gettysburg. We stayed in the town of Gettysburg and spent a day exploring the battlefields.
