What's Your Writing Problem?

Every great writer has a quirk in his writing process that makes him go back and rewrite, revise, edit, restructure, and sometimes even scrap his work.  This is normal!

That's what this page is for.

In order to show that we're all in the same boat, we add some of our writer-friends' quirks, (and one or two of our own) in the hopes that readers become empowered in writing and in editing their own work with an objective eye.

Deb, the owner of Sawa-Lad, cannot type!  Her fingers simply don't match the (lightning) speed of her thought processes.  How does she deal with it?

With patience and more than a little editing.

She also uses way too many extra superfluous words to write a proper sentence properly, too.

Please email us at SawaLad@yahoo.com if you'd like to share your techniques that get you through the writing process.

Others?

(Judy edits and writes part-time for Sawa-Lad's, and is never at a loss for words!)

Aids to Writing:

Caffiene-lots and lots of it. In hot or cold form, depending on the weather and chocolate forms at any time.  And spell check.......lol.

A major impediment to my writing process is simply sitting myself down to DO it. There is that niggling whine inside ones head that says-"Who wants to read this farfalonous?"  So kicking this gremlin to the curb, where it belongs, is what I have to do.

After that, with the aid of an objective eye to double check my spelling and punctuation and to supply feedback about the storyline and affirmations (to keep above said gremlin cooling its heels), it's all systems go!

Wa alaikum salaam

One of the things that stops me dead in my tracks is that it seems like it has
all been said. I start and then realize it's not new. I'm not sure it *has* to
be "new" but still, it stops me.

My Frustrations as a Writer:

I am a terrible typist. I had to drop out of typing in high school. In
fact the teacher advised me against looking for a "secretarial" position
(remember I am going on 61 years so that was appropriate for that time in
my life). I never memorized the typewrter keyboard and that has carried
over to not memorizing the computer keyboard. So what does this have to do
with writing?

Well when I am on a roll...creating content...especially dialog... I just
hate it that I have to stop and put in quotation marks and commas and such.
I sometimes lose my train of thought! Then if I don't look at the keyboard
and then look at the screen... what I have typed is gibberish! If I am
writing notes, in cursive, when I return after a period of time I have one
heck of a time trying to figure out what I wrote! I think faster than I
can type or write.

This is why I rely heavily on the services of a professional editor. I
would be lost without editing to fix all my typos and omissions.....typing
half of a complete thought.

If I could afford to have a secretary to dictate to and then have my work
transcribed and edited I would be elated.. but that isn't gonna happen
anytime soon...like never. <grin>

Bismi Allahi er-rahmaan er-raheem
Assalam Alaikum

What I have found is lacking in many writings,is depth.
It does not matter what subject you write about or if this subject
has been written about a hundred times.
We all love someone, but each one of us love each other in a
different way.
That's what interests me in reading something.
People make this mistake. They want to tell a story because it is
important to them at the time, but they forget to think deeply about
the ideas they are using. So sometimes it sounds like a copy.
Is it a story that comes right from the bottom of your heart or are
you writing just because it is fun?
Writing from the heart cannot be bad, I think.

Sometimes I stop writing because of that.

wassalam
