Who are we?

The Bipolar Caregiver Life Support Group is a small, faith-based care-and-share style support group especially for parents and caregivers of children and adolescents diagnosed or with symptoms of bipolar disorder. Currently, our families have children ages 7-26 who are affected by bipolar disorder.

When we meet:

We are currently meeting on-line through Yahoo Groups and will resume in-person meetings the fall of 2007.

Please check our calendar for more a detailed description of meeting times and information.

About the group moderator
For a long time I had an idea in the back of my head to start a local support group especially for parents of children diagnosed with bipolar disorder.  I spent many nights looking up information about support groups but I never found other people near me.  There were many groups online, though I wanted a more personal group where we could talk openly about our deepest fears and greatest successes with others who really understood what it is like to parent a child with bipolar disorder.

One Sunday at church, Pastor Jack was speaking on missions and how we are called to give.  I felt in my heart that it was time to start a local group.  So, with Pastor Jodi ushering forward the 'faith' part of the group and lending her knowledge of the scriptures, and WUMC providing the room the Bipolar Caregiver Life Support group began in March 2006.

We are still very small, but I hope we grow to reach those who think that they are ready to 'drive their van into the sea'.  It's funny, I always felt called to go away on a mission like I wasn't doing enough to help others in need.  A couple of weeks ago I saw this group listed in the mission site of the church bulletin and felt a new hope.  I pray that God will lead this group forward to touch the lives of parents who think no one else could understand the twists and turns from the road they are on. Rebecca.
