Frequently Asked Questions:
Question: Is there a difference between being a bargaining unit
member and a Union member?
Answer: Yes. Employees under the HUD-NFFE 1450 contract are bargaining
unit employees. Union members are those who pay union dues. All Union members are bargaining unit employees but
not all bargaining unit employees are Union members. You might interested to know that we have found that in divisions/teams where
there is at least a 51% union membership rate that management is usually more honest and ethical when it comes to working
with employees.
Question: Can I join the union during my 1 year probation period? Answer: Yes, you
can!
Question: What are the membership dues and how are they paid? Answer: Dues are $22.90
per pay period and they will be taken directly thru payroll deduction when you fill out an SF-1187 form (link below). The
dues are used for arbitration costs and for monthly conference calls. Having a strong Union membership is key to having
a healthy arbitration "arsenal" to take matters to an objective 3rd party (Arbitrator). NFFE 1450 has a winning history
in Arbitration! Part of the dues are shared with NFFE National and the International Association of Machinists (IAM).
IAM provides first rate training of our Union Representatives. NFFE National is the oldest union representing Federal employees
and they are key to legislative changes because of their work in DC with our elected representatives.

the bargaining unit? (click on the link below to find the answer)
