I've been trying to figure out how to use my fabric weaving skills
with wire for a while now. Recently I came across Eni Oken's site http://www.enioken.com/index.html and downloaded some tutorials.
So far all I've tried is the briolet bail.
It's hard to see without making the pic gigantic, but I've wrapped very fine
sterling silver wire around the heavier wire. Her characteristic style incorporates basket weaving techniques like wrapping.
This is just a little baby step, but I had to start someplace. Her
techniques are inspiring and her jewelry is unique and creative. I love the organic shapes. Check it out.
I bet you've never seen anything like it; I certainly hadn't.
I have foot problems so I can't wear just any old shoe.
I need arch support so badly that I don't even go barefoot. Until recently, I hadn't worn sandals for years. Here's
a great sandal with good arch support: the Keen Newport H2:
This picture is from Onlineshoes.com, where I've happily purchased several pairs
of Keen shoes. (No they aren't paying me.) The sandals come in many, many colors and have a anatomical footbed
with great arch support. The wrapped toe design is a trademark design in the Keen shoes. It also does a great
job at protecting your toes. I wore them while working outside and got lots of stickers in the toes, but none in my
feet.
The Mary Janes are also a favorite of mine, particulary the Seattle.
It also features good arch support. In fact, I intend to get it in every color I can find. Since I found these
shoes I've pretty much quit wearing my athletic shoes. The athletic shoes just don't have the same arch support, and
they aren't as stylish.
Here's a link to the Keen homepage.
(they aren't paying me either)
The Seattle appears to have been restyled a little, so maybe the footbed
has changed. They have several new styles of sandals that I'll probably try. Check them out. They specialize
in water shoes and waterproof sport and hiking shoes. The arch support isn't consistent across all styles so you kind
of have to shop around and test them out. To date they're the best shoes I've ever found.
I get frequent compliments on the shoes too from teenagers, to grandmas so
they appeal to a wide age group.
