>>SETUP AND TAKEDOWN FOR NEW PEOPLE:
Setup and takedown are necessary evils in what we do. Many people enjoy this part and it is a good feeling to accomplish
such a task.
As new people, there is nothing that will aquaint you faster with module railroading and teach you building and handling
techniques than participating in this part of the SIG.
At first you may be overwhelmed with what to do, when to do it, and how to do it. On a good day, experienced people seem
to go about the task with little talk and direction.
As a new person, I encourage you to enjoy the process. Have fun! But you will need to learn some skills before becoming
"experienced" yourself. Here are some tips:
- When you are getting started, work with someone. Do not attemp to do anything by your self until you learn what, when,
and how to do it right.
- Ask about anything you are not sure of.
- There is a Setup And Takedown Manual that shows what, when, and how to do things. Consult this when you need to.
It will refine what you are seeing and doing. After a few times at each task you will be just like one of us. Try to learn
all the various processes.
- During takedown, a few extra comments are in order:
Follow
the takedown chart for timing and instructions Again, work with someone else until you know how to do things. I usually
reserve one table for the 4D and my own stuff. Put anything removed on that table. Do not try to figure out which boxes or
tubs it goes in. A misplaced item is difficult to find next time. Keep track joiners on the 9" jumper tracks, Do NOT leave a any on the module tracks. FYI:
the 9" tracks are called "Jumper tracks’ or "jumpers" and the tiny metal pieces that hold them in alignment are
called "joiners." Keep the 8 bridge 9" joiners separate. They along with the gapped joiners are stored in a plastic bag
under the bridge
- The jumper tracks also are kept separate. They are stored in the box of turtable scenery.
Remove Plexiglas before unclamping. Otherwise and the modules fall over. If you use an electric screw driver to install
sheetrock screws in modules, use clutch on the lightest setting to prevent stripping. These screws are reused many times and
eventually strip out, especially if they are overtightened. When it’s time to laod
the trailer, make sure that items go out is the correct order so that they are not in the way.
