The A-wake-ning of Dan Harrigan

The Plot

This is the story of a Irishman by the name of Dan Harrigan, who reportedly "died" some time ago in Ireland and. who, eventually wakes up. in of all places, the tiny Irish village of Heemet. Danny Harrigan's body had been pickled in alcohol - it didn't take much, for he saw to that hisself.

You see, Harrigan was not really "dead" atall. The Banshees Sisters or the "hobgoblins" had cast a spell on him for his wayward ways that made it appear that he had gone to the Great Hereafter. The "antidote" to the spell -- in other words the secret to bringing him out of his dead-like existence -- was scribbled on a scroll that was planted in a "pot of gold" and buried somewhere near the village of Heemet.

Harrigan's poor old body has been kept in tact by a Leprechaun "couple," who Harrigan had befriended years ago in a place called Glocca Morra...not too far from Heemet.

To be sure, Harrigan body was locked in a state of the "bewillikers," caused by this strange spell familiar only to the Irish, or to those who drink a lot. It is like a state of suspended animation.

The nice thing about it is that Harrigan won't age a bit from the day he got the "bewillikers" to the day the spell is finally cast off. So, that if and when he does wake up in Heemet, he will be the same age as when he died, so-to-speak. It just so happens that the Leprechauns (Zephie and Ephie) are the principal heirs mentioned in Harrigan's will, but the only thing Harrigan left behind was a map to where he buried the pot of gold.

Heemet is located in a place called the "Emerald Empire, not far from the Twin cities of Glocca Morra and Glocca Fewer...and it's a kind of magical place where all sorts of weird things happen, so the magic spell cast upon Harrigan is not as unusual as you might think .

Well, the idea is set. All of Harrigan's friends and relatives have gathered at Lefty O'Toole's saloon. The body is laid out in fine fashion, and everyone is gathered around drinking their favorite quaff and having a gay old time. Each person rises and offers a tribute to Harrigan, a poem, a song....whatever. The action keeps moving on stage behind each individual performer. The barmaid does her job; the floozy meanders about attracting the kind of attention she is out to attract. The show starts with the Banshee sister doing their thing...together and as solo bits.

Danny's wife, Kathleen, is sobbing thoughout (Later in the show, someone will offer to take her "home" again. Kathleen.)
