Happy President's Day
I've added a new menu item called "Universe". I was going to call it "Beyond the Milky Way" (which is a way cooler
name) but it took up a lot of space. Just think of it that way - things that are outside of our own Milky Way.
I've decided that my primary motivation for astrophotography is to be able to see/show things that are hard to with just
the eye alone. It's way better, for instance, to look at Saturn in a telescope but it's not possible to see as
much detail as in a picture. So, the picture adds value. I love open clusters (groupings of stars) but I may not
photograph them much because it's better to see them "live and in person". But, my secondary motivation is to share
things that I see which people can't see themselves for whatever reason. So, maybe one day I'll photograph them if I
have equipment suited for it (right now I could only photograph small open clusters - which may be an interesting experiment
anyway). Globular clusters are cool too and there are some that may look better in a photograph than at the eyepiece
because they are far away or compactly grouped. Planetary nebula are often small and/or faint so they are an option
near-term as well. I'll leave all of the large, glorious nebula and interesting galaxy/star fields for people with
rich field telescopes capable of viewing more than 1 degree of the sky at once. Plenty of people are into that anyway.
I'll work on showing the rest of it...

Happy Valentine's Day
Still messing around with stuff. Had some luck with the Powermate on 2/13. I think if the seeing is good
I can at least get a good lum shot which provides the detail for the picture. I think the RGB image would be terrible.
I also replaced the 12/31 Saturn page with a new one from the last few days (entitled 2-13-08). I have a better color
picture of Titan there now. I also snuck in a picture on the Saturn home page. Guess that's it for now!

Saturn with moons
A picture of Saturn with its moons was posted to the Saturn 2008 page. I'm pretty sure that the reddish moon is
Mimas. Titan is probably overexposed and Mimas is underexposed. I'll probably work on a better image of Titan
later.

Latest Changes
I've organized all of the Mars photos under Mars 2007. There are sub-pages that have other pictures. I've
done the same with Saturn - under Saturn 2008. SS Photos only has the February 1st conjunction of Venus and Jupiter
so far.
Most of the new additions will be to the Saturn 2008 page. I just figured out how to align my L R G B images better
so more will come there soon hopefully.

This is an LRGB photo of Mars made on 12/21/07 05:52 GMT. It's centered near Eden but Syrtis Major is still
visible. I have an 11" SCT and used a monochrome Imaging Source USB 60 fps camera at f/25. I used Registax,
Photoshop and Maxim DL during processing. Thanks for visiting!
