First Jupiter Pics of 2009
Got the first images of Jupiter for 2009 this morning. Jupiter was low in the sky but would have been a little
higher if it was closer to dawn. The blue channel was very weak - probably due to all the moisture in the air and
maybe some high clouds. More will be coming as it reaches opposition in August.

Last chance at Saturn?
Saturn is rising later and later and is getting farther away. Seeing wasn't really good tonight but there haven't
been many good nights lately - so I'll take it. The rings are opening up again before going edge on again in the summer.
Look on the Saturn page for it.
I also caught up with two asteroid pictures taken on 4-7-09. One is actually dwarf planet Ceres, the first
and largest asteroid found. It was originally called a planet but now is a dwarf planet (like Pluto's current classification).
I had a problem with my software and missed it when it was closest so it's a lum only shot. Also posted is 8 Flora,
the largest of the closest asteroids to the Sun (1.9 AU at closest). Mars at its farthest from the Sun is 1.7 AU
(Earth is about 1 AU).

This is an LRGB photo of Mars made on 12/21/07 05:52 GMT. It's centered near Eden but Syrtis Major is still
visible. I have an 11" SCT and used a monochrome Imaging Source USB 60 fps camera at f/25. I used Registax,
Photoshop and Maxim DL during processing. Thanks for visiting!
