In the House of Representatives, it's HR-25;  in the Senate, S-25.  It's called the Fair Tax, and it stands to change America like nothing since the Declaration of Independence.

Imagine it is late evening on April 14th.

Not only haven’t you filed your Federal Income Tax, you haven’t begun to gather your W-2s, 1099s, medical records, sales tax receipts, property tax records, mortgage interest information, or list of charitable deductions.  As a matter of fact, you do not even have a form 1040.

Now imagine that you turn to your family, and say…”Tomorrow, why don’t we go for a drive and take along a picnic.”

Sound like a recipe for disaster?

Not if Americans for Fair Taxation have their way.  HR-25, the Fair Tax, would:

  • Abolish the IRS as we know it;
  • Repeal the Federal Income, AMT, and Estate Taxes;
  • Eliminate all Payroll Taxes; and
  • Wipe out the Corporate Income Tax.

HR-25, the Fair Tax, is a National Sales tax.  Among other things, it would:

  • Decrease fraud and non-compliance, and spread the tax base to include many more payers than under our present system...resulting in lower taxes for everyone;
  • Be revenue neutral;
  • Make American Manufacturers more competive in world Markets;
  • Make paying taxes a choice, rather than the result of government compulsion;
  • Lead to a boom in job creation; and
  • Result in the largest economic expansion in our nation’s history.

And do all this while preserving a progressive tax system by offering everyone a "prebate" on the tax they would pay up to the Federal Poverty Level.

Think about it…your take home pay would equal your gross pay.  You could choose if and when to pay taxes.  Sound interesting?

The answers to all your questions can be found at Americans for Fair Taxation.  Visit their site, learn more, and then get involved.

We can make April 15th just another day.

Did you know...

When the Federal Income Tax was first passed, the tax rate was 2%, and it applied only to the wealthiest 1/2 of 1% of all citizens...in today's dollars, those making over $250,000?

In spite of the guarantees found in our Constitution, if the IRS says you owe additional taxes, you must prove that you don't?  (The Fair Tax would change that!)

When Karl Marx wrote the Communist Manifesto in 1848, he listed ten things that needed to happen to create a Communist society.  And the second item on his list was "...a graduated income tax"?

The Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) was introduced as a "soak the rich" scheme in 1969; but by 2010, it will increase the taxes due of 35,000,000 Americans....most of them Middle Class wage earners.

In the 1940s, there were 159 workers paying into the Social Security system for every person receiving benefits?  In 2005 that ration has dropped to 3 to 1.  Within a couple of decades it will be 2 to 1.

The total unfunded liability of our government is more than 74 Trillion Dollars, while the total net worth af all Americans is just over $40 Trillion?  In other words, if the government seized every possession and every dollar owned by every American, we still wouln't be able to meet our required payments on the debt and to Social Security and Medicare recipients.

If on the day that Jesus was born, you started to spend One Million Dollars per week, you still would not have spent One Trillion Dollars?  You'd have to continue your spree for another 700 plus years!

A democracy is two wolves and a small lamb voting on what to have for dinner.  Freedom under a constitutional republic is a well armed lamb contesting the vote. ~ Benj. Franklin
