    The Setting

    Introduction

No one knows when they first appeared. For as long as there have been stories, there have been Imagined — fictional figures brought to life by some unknown means.

Now they live in our modern day, spread among us. To the unwitting observer, they look human. A conversation with one reveals them as shallow, obsessed, two-dimensional. Herein lies their secret and their goal. Though often gifted with more than human abilities, they desire what has always eluded them: Humanity, and Life in three dimensions.

    Player Direction

PCs begin as Imagined. They go about their daily lives, trying to fit in with ordinary humans, sometimes failing, trying to accomplish their individual goals.

    Centralization

The PCs have met each other somehow, typically through the Internet, but perhaps through letters or random chance in some club or bar.

Sensing kinship, they begin to form friendships, trying to help — or perhaps exploit — each other to their own personal goals, while trying to become more complex, more human.

    Sample Character Goals

Conquer the World: The Imagined is your typical madman, obsessed with taking over the world.

Save Humanity: The Imagined views himself as a savior of humanity from all its threats and evils.

Look Good: The Imagined is just vain, and wants to look good at all times.

Find the Secrets of the Universe: The Imagined is an obsessed researcher, convinced that there are secrets beyond the ken of ordinary thought, which must be found.

Stop Crime: The Imagined views the world as corrupt, which must be stopped by any means necessary.

Create: The Imagined is an artist or scientist, obsessed with creating something new and never before seen in the world.

      Overarching Goal

The goal of all Imagined is to become more human. In game terms, this means gaining experiences to gain Traits. For example, an Imagined might go on a date to learn about the complexities of human romance. Or, he might try to make friends with his next door neighbor. Or, he might just try to drive without it degenerating into a chase scene. And so on.

    Tech Level

The tech level of Imagined is that of the modern world. However, individual Imagined may produce items centuries in advance of modern science, or which violate known scientific laws, i.e., magic.

    Plot Hooks

Hero vs. Villain: A Hero PC finds out about a Villain NPC's plans and must stop him.

Date: An Imagined goes out on a date with a normal human. Unfortunately, there's some sort of misunderstanding, and comedy ensues.

I Don't Get It: An Imagined is confronted with a morally ambiguous situation, and must decide what to do.

    Sample Signatures

Because Imagined are two-dimensional in personality, their Signatures are consequently two-dimensional. Players should differentiate their characters by style — clothes, gear, appearance, etc.

Hero: The character is a hero with no flaws, who always does the right thing.

Villain: The character is a villain with no redeeming features.

Artist: The character is an artist obsessed with his work.

Pretty One: The character just wants to look good at all times.
