February 6, 2006 Doylestown - The Coalition for Voting
Integrity announces a candlelight vigil to save the vote. The vigil will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 9,
at the Doylestown Courthouse. It will take place in support and anticipation of a Citizens' Rally to Save the Vote, which
will take place on Saturday, February 11 at 2 p.m., also at the Doylestown Courthouse.
The point of the both the vigil and the rally
will be to encourage Bucks County citizens to contact the County Commissioners to ask that they purchase or lease a voting system that provides a voter-verified paper ballot. Major legislation
is currently pending in the Pennsylvania
legislature that would mandate a voter-verified paper ballot (HB 2000, SB 977). Federal legislation is also currently pending
in the U.S. House of Representatives (H.R. 4666), which would move the deadline for HAVA compliance past the 2006 primaries.
In that light, it is vital that the County
Commissioners do not rush to act, making a decision that not only
wastes taxpayer money but also jeopardizes the integrity of our vote.
As in CVI rallies past, Paul Revere (Robert Gerenser) will be there on Thursday and Saturday to remind citizens that time
is of the essence and that they must now make their voices heard by their elected representatives. The struggle to save our
vote is our own.
