Yardley, February 7 - The Yardley Borough Council tonight adopted Resolution 0603 in support of two voting bills in the Pennsylvania General Assembly, HB-2000 and SB-977, which mandate the use of voter-verified paper ballots in the state of Pennsylvania as well as a state-wide 5% random audit.

Yardley resident Marta Steele, a member of the non-partisan citizens' action group, Coalition for Voting Integrity, brought the resolution before the council for consideration. Ms. Steele proposed the resolution during the public comments section of the council's previous meeting.

The board refrained from taking action at that time and requested that Ms. Steele answer several questions about the legislation. Ms. Steele complied. Other information provided to the board included background information on the issue of electronic voting in Pennsylvania and highlights of the Government Accountability Office's (GAO) report, which found serious flaws in the security and reliability of paperless electronic voting machines.

To date, fourteen municipalities in Bucks County have adopted similar resolutions. They are: Doylestown, Plumstead, Buckingham, Tinicum, New Britain, Lower Makefield Township, Upper Makefield Township, Milford, Springfield, East Rockhill Township, West Rockhill Township Boards, Sellersville Borough, Doylestown Borough and Yardley Borough. In addition, seven former Bucks County Commissioners have also endorsed a similar resolution.
