Letter to the Editor of the Bucks County Courier Times

"Looming disaster"

January 29, 2008

To the Editor:

Almost two years ago, concerns from voters about the integrity and validity of the new electronic voting machines the county planned to buy were cast aside. The money was spent and a guest editorial by one of the commissioners following the November 2006 election suggested all was well because “nobody complained.”

Talk about missing the important points!

Here we are at the beginning of 2008 and some have predicted that Florida 2000 will be Pennsylvania 2008. In a recent New York Times magazine article, Clive Thompson summarized some of the most well-known errors that have occurred using electronic voting machines.

A public crisis in the confidence of our voting system used to be a rare event. What is Pennsylvania in general and Bucks County in particular, going to do prevent a Florida-style debacle into our back yard?
