To the Editor:
Donald Petrille
in 'The Vent' (May 13th) is correct that a resolution to impeach the President and Vice President will not reduce the price
of gas and food. While the latter is important and urgent, that's not the rationale for any of the various impeachment initiatives
that I've seen. For all citizens the issue is the integrity of the Rule of Law and the US Constitution, which this Administration
has flagrantly violated.
This administration has arrogated to itself an unprecedented degree of authoritarian power
that so far stands unchallenged: the Democrats are "too busy" while most Republicans seem indifferent. This power will, by
precedent, be handed off to the next President.
I'm amazed that so few people, of either party, care about protecting
the Constitution yet are outraged at the idea of flag burning. We're in sad shape when we care more about the symbols of our
freedoms than the principles and laws upon which they depend.
One of the most passionate advocates for impeachment
now is constitutional lawyer Bruce Fein, who was a senior official on President Reagan's legal staff.
