To the Editor:
It's hard to
understand why Plumstead Supervisors Froio, Mulholland, and Formica are now willing to conduct a water study but reject their
Environmental Advisory Council's recommendation to wait for its completion before any settlement of the lawsuit filed by the Bucks County Water & Sewer Authority,
which would extend its sewer lines in the township.
Those
with the most experience and knowledge of these issues say there's no need to rush to settlement before the water study is
concluded—that it's normal for this kind of litigation to take a long time. They dispute the claim that the proposed
settlement is a good deal and that it would firmly cap the number of hookups.
Developers can and will always come back and
challenge that number. Leaving the water study out of the settlement means giving up one of the strongest arguments for holding
down the number of hookups and would also rob future boards of a powerful tool for fighting challenges from developers in
court.
And how is it that an agency that was created to serve the citizens sues
us instead? Shouldn't we be complaining to the county commissioners, who appoint the members of its board?
From a groundwater conservation perspective, none of this makes sense.
