Official: Oil from spill didn't
go into river
By Hilary Bentman, Courier Times, December 7, 2008
The 3,200 gallons of fuel that spilled from an overturned heating oil truck onto Stump Road in Plumstead did not make it into the nearby Tohickon Creek or any other waterways, said township fire marshal Scott
Fleischer.
Fire officials and clean-up crews were able to keep the fuel from spreading following the
Friday accident.
J&J Spill Service of Blue Bell was onsite on Saturday cleaning up the fuel and digging
up soil to determine how far the fuel seeped into the ground, said Fleischer.
Once they’ve determined the extent, the company will notify the Bucks County Health
Department, which can compare the depth of contamination with the well depths on record, to see if any wells could be tainted.
J&J is expected to be back at work this morning on the cleanup.
For now, nearby residents are being asked to alert officials to any odors or problems they
experience with their water.
According to police, the fuel spill occurred around 3 p.m.
on Friday near Blueberry Lane when a deer dashed into the roadway in front of a Reit Fuel Oil Co. truck.
The driver, Dan Conden of Trevose, cut the wheel hard to avoid a collision but lost control
of the truck, which crashed onto its side, said police.
Conden was not injured and is not facing any charges in connection with the crash, said
police.
