Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important. — C. S. Lewis (1898-1963)

My Book of Life: A Companion Piece

LITTLE PIECES OF HEAVEN

Author: Oluwadahunsi

ISBN#: 0-9820745-1-4/978-0-9820745-1-0

Publisher: Spiritual Living in Action®/ Foundation Love

Inspiration, motivation, encouragement, support or simple common sense-you will find all of this and more in My Book of Life, Little Pieces of Heaven  by Oluwadahunsi.

Unique in its format, this is a book of one or two line thoughts that will reach out to you. More like a pack of inspirational cards, where the seeker reaches into the bag and pulls out the card of the day, this book reads like a list of inspirational phrases. At any given time, readers can thumb through the book and find just the right inspiration, motivation or thought of wisdom needed.  Many are meditation mantras that can be used to reinforce thought and manifest desired reality.

I am including self- explanatory samples, with their accompanying numbers:

37. Faith Yields! It manifests what you believe.

66. He who points a finger at you, points three at himself and his thumb at God.

141. It’s the servant that always opens the door and will find God there.

The book is composed of 528 thoughts, meditations or phrases. It is a tiny, take-along book of inspiration for every day problems, confrontations and much needed encouragement that people of all walks of life can use.

Oluwadahunsi has a unique approach to life and literature. His first Book of Life, Letter to Maya Angelou  was a collection of beautiful photographs, each one accompanied by little pieces of wisdom, snippets of life. This Book of Life is more of a spiritual, religious experience. He is a playwright, author and poet. Once again this is “Something different.”

When I first scanned the pages of Little Pieces of Heaven by Oluwadahunsi, I realized that this review would be unlike any other book I had previously reviewed.  It consists of 528  thoughts and meditations—some extremely short, others longer, containing several lines.  Very quickly I understood the reasoning behind the title of this book.  The “little pieces” are gems of wisdom, obviously inspired by the intellect of the author and, even more importantly, the indwelling spirit. The thought-provoking words offer guidance for daily living, showing wit, wisdom, and knowledge of life with all its joys, temptations, and man-made entrapments.

Though the selections contain invaluable advice and consequences of actions, every so often, I found myself smiling in awe at the method of presentation and the utilization of word skills that so effectively speak reason and reality to the heart. When ingested properly, the messages are words in motion, moving one toward a more fulfilling life.

There are many examples I would like to share, but I have chosen only the following four, hoping to entice prospective readers to purchase the book:

66.  He who points a finger at you, points three at himself and his thumb at God.

95.  When Satan says, “Don’t worry, you’ve got time,” worry, because you haven’t got time!  Time was yesterday!  Today is second chance!  Tomorrow is too late!

272.  Beware the crutch of prayer!  He who spends the day saying, “I’m praying, I’m praying,” is talking to himself.

426.  Don’t let man define you or you’ll defy God.

Readers will find Little Pieces of Heaven to be an excellent daily devotional and practical guide.  By reading one or more of the selections, pondering the meaning, and applying it to their lives, individuals will grow in their spiritual walk and in their ability to function in a problematic, fast-paced world with other human beings.   We get up, eat breakfast, go to work, eat lunch, work some more, return home, eat dinner, watch television, and go the bed.  The next day we repeat the same routine.  Over and over we hear the words, “There isn’t enough time in the day to get everything done.”  Well, this book provides powerful meditations and thoughts that are packaged so that very little time is needed to make a big difference in the thinking of individuals.

It is my suggestion that you purchase several copies of this book as they would make a perfect birthday or holiday gift.  I can’t imagine any individual who would not want to give a friend, regardless of the occasion, little pieces of heaven.

LITTLE PIECES OF HEAVEN -- BLURBS

"Oluwadahunsi has collected a set of personal aphorisms that are biting yet deeply philosophical. Will you agree with all of them? No, you won't -- I certainly didn't-- but then who wants the lukewarm? Read them and find buried treasure. I did.”    Joanna Daneman, Amazon top reviewer

"Oluwadahunsi has collected great wisdom here, put together in a time-honoured way as aphorisms, proverbs, and perhaps even the occasional commandment.  As the title says, 'thoughts and meditations on our walk with God and our fellow persons', these are step-by-step pieces that can be easily absorbed, yet often require a great deal of concentration and meditation to unwrap the fullness of each expression.  Read quickly, much is missed.  Read slowly and attentively, each step taken carefully, it can lead along a wonderful path.  A nice ecumenical collection, it can reach out widely to many readers.  Fr. Kurt Messick, Ivy Tech Community College/Amazon top reviewer

"Little Pieces of Heaven”  is the personal proverbs of its author, Oluwadahunsi.  Each numbered lesson of life offers priceless advice that can be used in our Christian walk.  Though some of Oluwadahunsi’s quotes are familiar, many will leave you saying, “I never thought of it like that!

"Little Pieces of Heaven”  is both revealing and humorous and each proverb is presented in an original light.  Oluwadahunsi helps Christians focus on the ‘big picture’ rather than on their human faults.  This book is a worthy addition for any Christian library.”  Robert Denson III, Sunpiper Press

Doron: Gift

Oluwadahunsi

ISBN#: 0-9820745-6-5/978-0-9820745-6-5

Publisher: Spiritual Living in Action®/ Foundation Love

Those of you who have had the privilege of reading other books by Oluwadahunsi will find Doron: Gift to be another unique reading experience.  The words are, perhaps, a bit more demanding of the mind; however, those who read and ponder each selection will come to understand that they are the recipients of a gift.  And what is this gift?  It can partially be defined as the gift of creativity that seems to spill so easily from the very soul of the author; however, it is how his words are interpreted and received that brings forth the true gift.  Within each selection there is a variation of style and expression.  And, as in all his books, Oluwadahunsi offers advice and wisdom on how to live in our chaotic world as we journey through life.

And speaking of life, the author’s unrestrained, poetic messages remind readers of how short life is and how they must embrace opportunity as it presents itself.  No one should wait for knowledge—a moment is eternal.  Think about the following: truth is gold, love is a treasure, the mind is a place to visit, departure leads to arrival, you can’t go wrong being right unless right is wrong, it all adds up if you count well, every experience yields unless you’re not collecting, a fool and company have nothing to laugh about—they have each other, it takes a flop many times to make the pancake right.  These are just a few chosen tidbits from the treasures within the pages of Doron.  Oluwadahunsi uses words in ways that most of us could not begin to conceive or perceive, and the messages are far deeper that one might think at first glance.  Though entertaining, his selections produce much fruit for the mind to absorb. They are “earthly” educational.

I recommend this book to readers as “lessons in living.”  There are warnings given and consequences explained as a result of actions taken—both good and bad.  I found myself embracing the words as their significance unraveled and helped me in my search for truth about life and its mysteries.

There’s nothing more natural than to fill our stomachs with the best food and drink. There are few feelings that are more satisfying than finishing a good meal, when you are content and all is right. Now, imagine that feeling on a spiritual level and you’ve gotten a glimpse of My Book of Life, A Companion Piece: Meals for Thought/An Alternative Guide on Living.  This book is full of delicious morsels that will feed the mind and spirit and leave you satisfied.

With a focus on ways to conduct yourself when encountering life’s obstacles, the author has managed to gather some of the most basic truths and distil them into readable passages. Oluwadahunsi’s eternal wisdoms deal with mental strength, experience, truth, money, making mistakes, knowledge, giving excuses and reaching out to others.

Some of the passages are genius in their simplicity, such as #31: If you have nothing in mind/Mind your mind/Nothing in mind/Calls for squatters. Others are more complex and require a little time to digest, such as # 345: Skills rust quick, gifts don’t perish/Everything reverberates/Everything begets/A brief life breeding good breathes long. Several were beyond my grasp, but I have no doubt that certain passages speak to different readers based on life experiences and present circumstances. With just a handful of words, the author conveys observations and experiences about life to guide anyone looking to navigate through life with as little anxiety as possible.

The passages in this book flow freely from the author’s mind, and the open presentation of these nuggets invites the reader to partake in a buffet of spiritual feasting. This isn’t the kind of book that should be read cover to cover in one sitting. Rather, it must be studied, perused, pondered and reflected on in order to gain the most benefit.

Regardless of how one is currently living life, there is perspective to be gained and improvements to be made. As the author mentions in the introduction, “Life is not a lifestyle. Life cultivates. Life contributes. Life improves.” For anyone feeling the pangs of spiritual hunger, Oluwadahunsi invites you to supper.

My Book of Life, A Companion Piece

Isaac
Oluwadahunsi
ISBN#: 0-9820745-4-9/978-0-9820745-4-1

Publisher: Spiritual Living in Action®/ Foundation Love

The first selection in this book by Oluwadahunsi is appropriately titled “Isaac”  and reads as follows:

Light eternal

Over still water

The peals of laughter

Isaac

From the joy and peace

Knowing The Lord brings

Isaac is one of my favorite Bible characters because he is the proof and fulfillment of a promise made by God to Abraham that his wife Sarah—at the age of ninety—would give birth to his son.  He would be called Isaac, and through him, the covenant that God made with Abraham would continue. The name Isaac means laughter, and Sarah felt God had prepared laughter for her since she was such an old woman to have a child.

As readers continue through this book, they will see the fulfillment of God’s promises in every passage.  The words offer advice, undeniable truths, and even warnings that show the way “home” to those who, at Oluwadahunsi’s invitation,   accept this journey of mind, body, spirit and heart.  There is a reason for “laughter.”  It reminds us that God will always keep His word…that nothing is impossible for Him to bring about.

As a child, I recall how upset my father would be if anyone placed an item on top of the family Bible.  “That’s God’s Word,” he would say.  “It is sacred.”  Of course, in reality the exterior product was manufactured, printed, bound, and published by man.  Therefore, it was not the book that was sacred, but instead it was the words inside that gave it life—inspired words—Holy Scripture that will live forever.

In “Isaac”  we are reminded over and over again that God’s word will not return void.  The author skillfully portrays Biblical truths to us in a poetic and powerful way that breathes God’s love and hope into our mortal bodies.  “Isaac”  is more than a beautiful book with its full color illustrations and words of wisdom.  It is a work of creative art that is a MUST READ.

The choice of faith is the thread that runs throughout the latest installment in a series of inspirational writings by author Oluwadahunsi. My Book of Life, A Companion Piece: Testament (Pictures & Words)  consists of affirmations, scripture, and vignettes that challenge views of God, faith, and what can be expected from both.

Many of the concepts on spirituality the author presents are familiar and speak to the basic foundation of faith: “Ask and receive, seek and find, knock and it will be opened (p.17).” Faith is expressed as a fluid, continuous practice, not a stagnant ritual with rigid lines providing absolutes. The author offers comforting words to cope with fear and suffering in a world where such things cannot be avoided because “it’s where choice exists.” Oluwadahunsi also addresses our human and divine dichotomy with passages that instruct on the care and nurturing of the soul in spite of the failings of the flesh.

The vignettes act as reminders of lessons many people learned as children about being grateful and open to life’s blessings. In “A Tale of Two Sillies” the old adage “be careful what you wish for” is illustrated as characters covet their neighbors’ possessions with disastrous results. The theme of “Grace” is learning the skill of abandoning our fears and desires to faith and being open when prayers are answered.

As with the other books in this series, My Book of Life, A Companion Piece: Testament (Pictures & Words)  is illustrated with pictures of nature that complement the spiritual context of the work. Most of the entries are sparse and can be read in conjunction with the Bible or simply enjoyed alone as a support in faith building. Oluwadahunsi, in his focus on the choice of faith, teaches and guides; provides a framework for becoming spiritually centered.

Nursing Rhymes & Nursery Crimes for Adults

Oluwadahunsi

ISBN#: 0-9820745-3-0/978-0-9820745-3-4

Publisher: Spiritual Living in Action®/ Foundation Love

Nursing Rhymes and Nursery Crimes for Adults by Oluwadahunsi has an intriguing and beckoning title that is a bridge to the stirring passages within the book.  In the preface, the author says, “This book is a collection of original and popular old English nursery rhymes composed or adapted by me to convey Christian or basic moral messages.”  In the opinion of this reviewer, when the collection is shared with children, everyone involved will be blessed.  It is truly a book for all people regardless of age!  Why? Because the words offer:

Music to the Spirit

Food for the Soul

Wit and Wisdom for Seekers

Peace for the Restless

Stimulation for the Brain

Internal and Eternal Happiness

Entertainment for the Mind

An Understanding of Salvation

Most of us understand and remember how, as children, we found nursery rhymes to be so appealing with their rhythm and rhyme and repetitive lines.  Easy to memorize, the words have stayed with most of us our entire lives.  The author has used this principle and his gift of creativity to offer 137 selections in Nursing Rhymes and Nursery Crimes for Adults that also convey “forever” messages that are fun to read.  At the same time he calls attention to important truths that are so important in this fast-paced world of uncertain times.  Often the words have meaning far deeper than what one sees at first glance.  I highly recommend this book to those who wish to see man’s creativity at work in an entertaining and insightful way.

Little Life Changers, February 19, 2007

Reviewer: B. Vroman "Barbara Fitz Vroman"

First of all I have to say that Oluwadahunsi's book, Meals for Thought, is not for everyone, anymore than Zen koans appeal to everyone. But I have given it five stars for the following reason:

When I was a little girl and things began to go wrong in our house hold and descend into chaos, the worse they got the sillier my mother became. She had a saying she would resort to, "It's better to laugh than to cry, it's better to live than to die, by Longfellow." Now, I don't think Longfellow ever penned anything like that. Yet somehow it always relieved the tension and later in my life when things went wrong I would find myself quoting my mother's little ditty and things would regain proportion.

My husband's father had a similarly impactful saying. He told my husband, "Whenever you start a project know it's going to cost twice as much and take twice as long as you think." Operating on that assumption has saved him a lot of grief.

Mottos hung in our minds or hearts have more power than we realize, and Oluwadahunsi's book is a treasure chest of just such small bits of wisdom that offer that kind of power when you make them your own. Different aphorisms will appeal to different people. The ones that will matter to you, jump out at you.

Here is a couple I am hanging on my heart to live by: "If the soufflé won't rise, prepare the batter and make bread." -- "Success learns, failure teaches." Oluwadahunsi is also a guru who uses humor: "A bad cold is nothing to sneeze at." And many of his pronouncements are simply mysterious and take a lot of pondering.

The covers of all of his books are extremely beautiful, so that makes them unique gifts to give to those who have everything.

The price of a book is a small thing for a thought of wisdom that lasts one's whole life through.
