Practice Placement Guidelines:
BL 5-7 pm Practice
The BL 5-7pm practice is the most challenging of the
practices offered. The focus in October, early November, January and early February
is workout oriented with a focus on maintaining stroke while yardage is increased. The
focus in late November, December, Mid-February and March is FAST SWIMMING with fine tuning of strokes.
BL 5-7pm
practice requires that a swimmer have at least one of the following, unless moved by the Coach.
· "A" time in any event.
· "BB" time or faster in at least 2 events
In addition;
the swimmer must be able to make the time standards repeated at the BL 5-7 practice.
If the swimmer skips laps or holds up the lane constantly, they will have to go to the OR 7-9pm practice until they
are able to complete the BL 5-7pm workout.
A swimmer will be given approximately 2 months after
they age up to meet the above requirements.
A BL 5-7pm swimmer must compete in a minimum of one
meet per month, two days per meet in November, December, January and February to remain in the BL 5-7pm practice. They should compete in at least six different events per month.
80% attendance is required for the BL 5-7pm practice.
There are times that a Coach sees a swimmer work out
much faster that they perform in meets. The Coach may move a swimmer to BL 5-7pm
based on "Coaches Discretion".
Morning Practice Guidelines:
Morning practice is for swimmers that need additional
challenges to continue their progression towards faster times.
GIRLS:
All research shows that morning practice should be
started with girls when they are 12-13 years old. There is a "Window of Opportunity"
for girls in this bracket (depending development) that must be met. Girls in
grades 7 & 8th that are faster than 2:16 in the 200 Free are welcome to attend Wednesday and Friday mornings AFTER they
meet with Coach Kennedy. Girls in grades 7 & 8th that are faster than 2:10
in the 200 Free are welcome to attend Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
BOYS:
All research show that morning practice should start
with boys later that girls. This also depends on their development and workouts. Boy's usually start when they are finishing 8th grade or are in 9th grade. The Coach will let swimmers know when to begin attending morning practices.
Saturday Morning Practice:
Any swimmer that attends 3 mornings per week may
attend Saturdays if we have room. The practice is half work out, half starts
and turns. Time changes, so check on Friday at practice.
