Words of wisdom in an email
I love Maya Angelou. This came to me as a forward from my mom. Of course, I am supposed to forward this to "5
awesome women", but I think it's great advice for anybody. And since I never know who's lurking in the shadows of my blog,
I post it for you. :)
In April, Maya Angelou was interviewed by Oprah on her 70+ birthday.
Oprah asked her what she thought of growing older. And, there on television, she said it was "exciting." Regarding body
changes, she said there were many, occurring every day...like her breasts. They seem to be in a race to see which will reach
her waist, first. The audience laughed so hard they cried.
She is such a simple and honest woman, with so much wisdom in her words!
Maya Angelou said this: "I've learned that no matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will
be better tomorrow."
"I've learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage,

Black Friday 2005
Okay, I did it. Although, there really wasn't much on my list, as I have found all my Christmas gifts around
the net this year.
Anyway, I had a very successful shopping trip this year. I went to Wal-Mart at 4:45 am. I had to stop for gas, so I didn't
make it until 10 after 5. The manager was right at the door greeting people and all the employees were very nice. It was quite
pleasant. There wasn't any shoving or meanness.
I managed to score a pair of jeans for me and the girl at $6 each. I also rummaged through the $3.88 DVD bin and found
Fever Pitch. So, I snagged a copy. There were quite a few good movies available, but I didn't want to buy a whole bunch. Personally,
I think someone messed up with that bin, but that's biz.
Let's see...after W-M, I went to JoAnn's, I bought a couple of things that didn't add up to more than $1.50. The good
sale isn't until tomorrow when I can buy some 12X12 albums for $2.96 each.
Then on to Staples where I purchased a Sandisk 512MB Flash Drive for Danny. Ready for the cost....$14.19. Those things
regularly go for $45 and up.
I headed back into good old Pullman to see what was going on in my town, but lo and behold, the place was dead. Maybe
it's because a couple of folks are afraid of a Wal-Mart Supercenter. If you don't like Wally World, don't shop there. Let
the rest of us enjoy some freaking commerce...come on people!
Oh yeah, I stopped by the Bookie for a WSU ornament and I got a free WSU hat. Did I mention, I love free? Surprisingly, they didn't have any ornaments, so
I left with my free hat and some free doughnuts.
I bought 2 ornaments at Shopko, though. A Spongebob Squarepants and a Darth Vader. It's only fair, I got a latte at Starbucks
for myself.

Happy Thanksgiving
It's 10am on Thanksgiving morning. I am attempting for the very first time to "do" Thanksgiving myself. Normally,
I rely on others to do it for me. Last year, I went to my best friend's mother's house. That was great fun. This year, we
have moved...no extended family and no friends.
I just couldn't stand the thought of not doing much even though it is just the 3 of us. So, yesterday, I made an Apple Tart. It looks yummy. We have caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream to go with it. I also created the brine for the turkey. Yes, another Alton Brown recipe.
This morning, I got up at 6 to put the turkey in the brine. It is happily sitting on the front porch. I turned it over
at 9 and it should be ready at 12. Then I have to actually cook it.
The giblet gravy is cooking as I type and I am mentally preparing the potatoes. We will also have stuffing, an olive/pickle
platter (not Thanksgiving without it), cranberry sauce, corn, and my grandma's holiday punch (not for the kids!).
We also, to Cirel's delight, put up the tree. It's very sweet. Cirel, take a bow.

Season's Greetings
We just bought our very first Christmas tree. It's 6 ft tall and only cost around $16. :) It's been so long since
we have had a tree that we have completely forgotten the rules about putting one up.
When do you put your tree up? We figured we would do it on Thanksgiving night and put the presents under on Christmas
eve.

Her very first Thanksgiving Program
I'm sure it won't be her last. It was a lot of fun seeing all the kids up there dressed as pilgrims, turkeys,
and Indians. So sweet to hear them sing. Cirel got a little shy and tried to climb in my lap, but she was a trooper and stayed
up there most of the time. Although, I don't think she sang any. (But still cute as all get out)
Of course, she did find time to talk (that's my girl!). Check out the vid on the misc page. Please ignore the gratuitous boob shot. I swear I didn't know it was still running and I have no idea how to edit
the video.

I got my tickets!
Okay, no really...I'm okay. It's not like I have lived the last couple of months for this moment 'cause that would be
totally pathetic. Let's just say I am looking forward to seeing the film...yeah, that's not so sad sounding.
I think I will go in not expecting the movie to be much like the book. That will help my enjoyment. Honestly,
the best way to enjoy the books and the movies is to see them as totally seperate entities. Otherwise, I might act like a
rabid fangirl and tell the screen how they got that scene wrong.
In other news, Cirel is going to participate in a holiday program! You should hear her singing the songs around the house.
It's adorable. Danny and I can't wait to see it tomorrow. Of course, we will take the camera and have videos.
Oh yeah, there is another recipe posted for your pleasure. I think I may just have to start worshipping Alton Brown like a god. Every recipe of his I use,
turns out perfect. I am going to make those carrots for the holiday feast at Cirel's preschool. I made them last night and
they were just soo damn good.

Blah
I got sick of looking at the same post everytime I logged in. But I don't have anything interesting to say. Usually,
I come up with all these brilliant things to blog about but by the time I sit down, it's all gone from my head.
Oops.
It's cold around these parts. We had our first snow the other day (nothing to write home about) and there was a rock-slide
on I-90 near Snoqualmie...crap, I have no idea how that is spelled.
Umm, yeah. That's about it. Cheers folks.

Not too long
before Thanksgiving...but more important is the day after Thanksgiving. Otherwise known as Black Friday (so
called because stores operating in the "red" were known to be pushed into the "black" on this day). People love to shop. I
should know, I'm one of them.
The best part of Black Friday is the awesome deals the stores will give you. Last year, my best friend, Tonya and I got
up early in the morning and stood in line at Sears. We got a $10 gift card for being part of the first 200 people. I'm sure
that stuff is archived at one of my many blog sites...here it is: The Arrogant Sage. The entry is 2 down and titled, aptly, Black Friday.
I have been all over the internet trying to find the BF ads that are traditionally held until Thanksgiving. Of course,
there is someone out there willing to put the ads out early, and I found the best spot to get the info. Just go to Gottadeal. You'll have to register, but it's free and no they don't spam you with anything. It's just a great site to go and learn
about some great deals and of course Black Friday news.
