This is my life and I love it. I will no longer apologize for the way it goes. A journey of a thousand miles starts with one step. Come, walk with me.

Ah, Joy.

See, it's been a banner week for us. We recently purchased a 5 cu. ft. freezer for the kitchen. No more running out of space in our teeny, tiny refrigerator freezer!
Now that I have the capacity to hold more food, I knew that I would want to buy in bulk. But how do I keep the food from freezer burns and whatnot?? Well, that's easy! Get a FoodSaver...hehe

So, I ordered one online and I am dying to try it out. It'll be neat to stop wasting the family pack of meat I can't use all at once.
We also discovered that the mall near our house is building an Old Navy and Bed, Bath, and Beyond! Holy cow, it'll be almost like living in a real city!!

I can't wait to hit those Old Navy sales for Cirel's clothes. She only looks great because her Yaya and Auntie take pity on her and throw her some nice clothes from their big old town of Kalamazoo.

And last, but not least, there is another new trailer for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Oh man, it looks spectacular and I can't wait to see this movie.

Oh well, got some stuff to scrap. TTFN

As If You Cared: My Thoughts on the Matter

Don Imus is an idiot. I suspect you all know this by now. What would make a grown man, who is quite knowledgeable about American culture, call those young basketball players such offensive names? And why are there people “defending” him?

Oh, I know those defenders all preface their rant about double standards with, “What Don Imus said was unconscionable, BUT…” See, what I mean? Why the but? It was horrible, wrong, and insulting to these young professionals. Neil Cavuto from Fox News told a rapper that “A ho is a ho” and if rappers can say it, why can’t Imus?

Heh. Really, Neil? Why can’t Imus call a group of professional young ladies “hos”? Are you a child? Rappers use it, why can’t I??? Whine, whine whine! But he does make one good point: Why should Imus be fired for using language that many rappers use daily? Well, the answer is simple. The market has no place for Imus insulting these women for no reason. His advertisers don’t want to support him doing it. It’s called consequences to his actions. Did I personally want to see him fired, surprisingly no, but I never listen to the man. But I can honestly say, that I know for sure I would NEVER listen to him now (even if he were to stay on the air). I have no room in my life for bullshit like that.

Now on to the other issues this raises. Because it seems no one in the damn news can just discuss Imus, they always have to muddy the issue with other stuff that’s related, but certainly NOT the same thing. Why aren’t there daily protests against rappers that use this language? Well, who says there aren’t?! This is America and I fucking respect the hell out of it. People are allowed free speech and creative license. We speak with our pocketbooks.

Imus lost his advertisers because HIS audience doesn’t want to hear him say such things. At least his advertisers don’t want to hear it! Rappers have their audience because they speak about many, many things. Some get heard more than others. Of course I think it’s sad when some young black person wants to be called Nigga and I think it’s sad when some young woman embraces ho as a term of endearment. But I cannot control those people and what they buy and support. All I can do is keep from purchasing it. Plain and simple. And I heard that Snoop Dogg was on the news saying Imus can’t say such things, but he can. Oh give me a break, Snoop! You helped perpetuate this. You DID this. You and your fellow artists made it so prolific that a grown white man on the radio didn’t have a problem letting it slip on national radio and tv. See, that’s what YOU created and if you don’t like hearing it from Imus, then I suggest you look to your own damn house.

And, for fuck’s sake! I am NOT controlled by Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. Please, please get that through your heads America. They are leaders in the civil rights movement, they are not leaders of black people. We do not have leaders. We have prominent people in our culture, that’s it. Why must everyone run to them to smooth shit over? Why does every white person who does something stupid have to ask for their forgiveness? The only people who need to forgive Imus is the basketball team he insulted. Sheese

Okay, I can’t resist this game:

  1. Think of 10 shows you currently watch or have liked over the years.
  2. Find those shows at Internet Movie Database.
  3. Copy down 3 Plot Keywords (they are mini descriptors of the show).
  4. Make a list on your blog minus the actual show name.
  5. Have visitors guess which shows they represent. No cheating!

The Day Before

It's 9:03pm on 4/02/07 and there are only a few hours left in my day. This is the last couple of hours my little girl is going to be 4 years old. When she wakes up, she's going to be 5. I don't know why I have spent so much time just looking at her because of this. She isn't going to change between now and tomorrow, but I can really feel this birthday coming.

A 4-year-old is not really a baby, but that's how I feel about this birthday. My baby is no longer a baby after today. Of course she's been growing up before my very eyes this whole time. She's an accomplished reader, she can do simple addition and subtraction, she's a deep thinker. And she's the light of our lives.

So, normally I would post lots of pictures or rehash her birth story, but today I just want to reflect and truly feel the impact her existence has had on my life.

Thank you, Cirel for being my daughter. Thank you, for coming into my life. Thank you, for your daily smile, hug, laughter, and love.

Happy Birthday, baby girl. I hope you enjoy your My Little Pony cake. :)
