Chapter Background

Our Chapter

The name "Princess Chasco" is derived from a legend about a Spanish teenager, Dona Isabella, who traveled to St. Augustine with her father, a Spanish soldier.  He also brought along his godson, Don Phillip.  They were captured by the Calusas indians who lived along the Pithachascoatee River.  The indians eventually adopted the teens, naming him Pithla and her Chasco.  Chasco became the queen of the tribe after converting them to Christianity.

It's a nice story, but not true.  However, it did give us the name for our chapter.
