In 2009 Derek looks to continue sharing his knowledge of the game with future greats, as he will be directing the  Texas Sports Red program based out  of the Big League Sports Academy. His goal is to continue to provide a direct link for his players to the college and professional levels.

Derek has been involved in baseball for over 30 years now and is dedicated to helping young players. He brings knowledge gathered from his experiences while playing for Oklahoma State University, the Canadian National Teams both junior and senior levels, as well as professionally in the Toronto Blue Jays Organization for 7 years. While in these organizations Derek was coached by great baseball minds like former Texas Rangers pitching coach Mark Connor, and former Texas Longhorns pitching coach Tom Holiday, as well as other great coaches like Gary Ward, Rich Hebner, Bill Momboquette, Garth Orge, Rick Peterson, Karl Kiel, Willy Wilson, Darren Balsley, Jimmy Hoff, Mel Queen , Jim Ridley and many others.

Derek has now been coaching for over 18 years  privately and at the high school and college levels. Derek last coached at the college level for the University of Texas at Dallas where he spent three seasons as the Comets pitching coach. Derek broke away from college coaching to earn a Bachelor of Science degree. While earning the degree, Derek worked privately with players in and around the Wylie area, where he has helped over 20 players move on to the college level.
