Santa Cruz CDS Chapter Meeting
September 10, 2008
Helen Dilworth’s “annex”
Board members in
attendance: Jill, Anne, Robert, Helen, Liz
Minutes from last meeting
were accepted
Treasurer Report
Helen reports a balance of
$18,704 before Coastal Classic reconciliation
Coastal Classic Update
There was lots of cleanup
left to do on the grounds after the cleanup crew left. Next year we
should have a list of tasks that they need to do, and a loaned
equipment checklist.
The official paperwork is
taking a long time to complete because of computer issues, should be
done by next week
Competitor feedback was
positive on judges. Benefit class on Sunday was very well received,
proceeds donated to Gwen and George DeBaere who lost their home in
the Trabing fire.
SC Cultural and Visitors
council wrote up Coastal Classic and Vaulting Championships
Show wrap-up will take
place via email. If you have feedback send it to Anne.
CDS/USDF Championships
The chapter was asked to
consider a warmup class sponsorship of $125 or a Gold Sponsorship of
$700 which includes a ring-side table for the weekend. There was a
discussion of various options and benefits to the chapter vs. the
individual members attending the show. We voted to sponsor at $175
which includes a quarter page ad which we can use to promote the
Coastal Classic. Anne will send the ad, Helen will send the check.
Elections
The entire board is up for
re-election every year, but it is now possible under the CDS By Laws
for the chapters to determine the terms in their standing rules.
There was some discussion of going to 2 year terms and staggering the
board so only half are re-elected each year but it was not put to
vote because we don’t fully understand how standing rules changes
are to be made. Mika and Faith volunteered to be on the nominating
committee who will also read the fine print of the CDS by laws to
understand the election process, and write up it up for the
newsletter and send in an email blast to the chapter.
Education Seminar
David Hunt is coming to
the area this winter. Sandy Howard suggested we host a seminar
similar in spirit to the Global Dressage Forum, with local dressage
trainers and judges openly discussing issues. Possible topic would be
the 2008 Olympic horses, riders, and judging. We would need to rent a
room (perhaps at Cabrillo) and advertise to other chapters. Sandy
find out about David’s interest/availability.
Ray Berta Clinic
Tabled for now.
Competition Clinic
Possibly with Jennifer
Roth? Tabled for now.
Schooling Show in October
Discussed, but too close
to annual show.
Fitness Workshops
The large studio at Robert
Kelly’s ballet studio is busy through December. The medium studio
(20 people) is available some Wednesday’s and the small studio (10
people) is available most evenings with advance reservation. Liz and
Robert are coordinating the sessions with a variety of trainers, let
them know if you have a trainer you want to bring in for a session.
If there is a lot of interest in an ongoing sessions with a single
trainer we will pursue that as well.
USDF Conference
Anne is a participating
delegate at the USDF Conference and will be participating in the
Regional meeting and Awards committee. Let her know if you have any
issues or topics to discuss there.
Guest speaker
Dr. Kacie Wells from
Edgewater Equine Veterinary gave a very interesting talk on wound
care. When is it important to call the vet, what you should keep in
your medicine cabinets, etc. Her talk included many stories of
patients (horses and zebra) she treated at Steinbeck, and lots of
great photographs of them to illustrate the healing process. She has
another talk on Lameness that she will give at the next meeting.
