Hello,

I have just a few questions, please.

You have estimated the construction costs at around $250.00. Does this include the tools, mast and sail?

I see that there are several bends in the tubing, how do we bend tubing without a tube bender (Cheap ones cost about $500.00 with dies).

Can a Lincoln wire feed arc welder be used for the job?

Can you supply a list of fabricators that are willing to make some of the parts (like the support ring that connects the three arms holding the mast tube)?

Nice design, I will order if you can help me with these questions.

Respectfully,  Tim M.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for taking an interest in my set of drawings. I can best answer your Questions by telling you how I completed my project cart. My goal was to produce a cart without the need for a complete machine shop that may include a milling machine or lathe. All the parts can be easily fabricated with only the tools listed below.

The major tools that I had on hand:

1.       Small table saw.

2.       Small drill press & bits.

3.       4” table Vise.

4.       7” bench Grinder with wire wheel.

5.       Small Lincoln wire welder.

6.       Small saber saw.

7.       Miscellaneous small tools, (screw drivers, files, clamps, etc.).

The tools that I bought for the project:

1.       10" carbide chop saw = $65.00

2.       3 ½“ carbide hand grinder = $12.00

3.       Extra blades = $6.00

4.       1 ¼“ conduit / tube bender = $35.00,

Some of the materials used:

1.       1 1/4“ x .062 wall x 20’ hot rolled tubeing = $17.50

2.       1 1/2” x 080 wall x 20’ hot rolled square tube = 21.50

3.       1/8” x 7” x18” plate = $10.00

The only required bends are 10 & 30 degrees; these were produced with the conduit bender. To assist in the proper trim of the compound angles, I have included tool drawings for a simple trim and weld fixture.

The parts which you refer to that may need help from a fabricator, I call the “Mast Tube Collar Assy. and Mast Strut” Assy. Those I fabricated with the chop saw, bench grinder and welder. The plans show in detail the method that was used. The Sail, Mast and Boom can be obtained for as little as $100.00 or possibly $50.00, and with a little extra effort, I acquired my set for free. Hence, you have a finished cart for way less than $250.00.

I hope this helps.
