Using Hand-dyed Fabrics...

Don't be afraid to use Sunny Bunny Designs Hand-dyed fabrics....

All quilters have horror stories of the 'fabric that ran'. Maybe it was a red that bled onto a white, or a navy blue that faded to sky blue after a few washings. You know the story. Many people have even greater fears about hand-dyed fabrics.

 DON'T FEAR !

Sunny Bunny Designs is proud of our efforts to elimnate color run in our hand-dyed fabrics. We use the best available fixitives and dyes and our post-production rinsing is intensive. We not only rinse, wash and re-wash in hot water and Synthrapol, we also boil our fabrics at 150 degrees (especially the intense colors) to remove the last few dye elements.

However -  a word of caution.  SBD uses highly treated water with little mineral content. Your local water may have a much different mineral content that may have a minor effect on the dyes. We hear well systems are infamous for mystery minerals.

Because of these differing mineral contents we suggest you do the following:

Place your fabrics in a wash basin. Then boil a kettle of water (tea, anyone?) and pour the boiling water over the fabric. Swish them around a little (old wood chopsticks are good for this) and then let them sit until the water cools. You should be good to go at this point.
If you want to use a little Retayne in the water, that's fine too.

After Care...
Once your project is complete SBD farbics can be washed in cool water just as you would your nice batiks or other quality cotton quilting fabrics.

Cheesecloth...

Cheesecloth is not meant to be used on any project that will be washed. We have used it with cold-water disolvable mediums (Wet n' Gone, Solvy) with no loss of color or bleeding onto the under fabric but we cannot be responsible for color fastness with hot-water or repeated washings.

If you have any questions please ...
