Operating Rules

1). Train Priorities:

1A) All "NJ TRANSYT" trains shall have priority over all other traffic.

1B) All “TC” trains shall have priority over all other freight traffic.

1C) Eastbound trains shall have priority over all Westbound traffic.

1D) All through trains are numbered trains, Even = Westbound, Odd = Eastbound

1E) All local TURNS shall hold for all other traffic per the dispatcher’s orders.

 

2). Stations and Call signs:

3). Siding Capacity

(All capacities are 50 ft cars, plus 1 engine and caboose, adjust for consist)

3A) BS Track 30, 10 cars

3B) BS Track 29, 10 cars

3C) LV Main 10 cars, Passing, 9 cars

3D) QV/HF 12 cars (Hanford Branch)

3F) CV Main, 10 cars, Passing, 10 cars

3E) CI Track #45, 11 cars

3G) CI Track #46, 11 cars

 

4). Restrictions

4A) No six- (6) axle engines shall travel beyond the FK yard limit on the Ogdensburg Branch.

4B) No road power is permitted on ABI tracks, all switching on ABI tracks shall be done by the ABI switcher.

4C) Ogdensburg Branch speed limit 20MPH.

4D) Hanford Branch speed limit 30MPH

4E) Speed Limits: NT trains 50MPH, TC's 45MPH, all other trains 35MPH.

4F No motive power shall enter Sussex Food Distributors.

 

5). Train Designations:

NT101, Eastbound commuter

NT102, Westbound commuter

TC1, Eastbound TOFC, COFC

TC2, Westbound TOFC, COFC

FK1, Eastbound local freight

FK3, Eastbound local freight

PJ2, Westbound local freight

PJ4, Westbound local freight

LVT, Libertyville Turn (PJ to LV) and return.

BLT, Beaver Lake Libertyville Turn (Ballast Train)

CVT, Colesville Turn (FK to CV and return)

COT, Conrail/Ogdensburg Turn (CR to PJ

to OB to PJ and return)

OCT, (DISCONTINUED)

OST, Ogdensburg Sparta Turn (FK to OB/SA and return)

TF1, Eastbound through freight (pickups & setouts as required.)

TF2, Westbound through freight (pickups & setouts as required.)

HFT, Hanford Turn, (LV, FK, PJ, to HF)

EXTRAS, Any EXTRA trains shall be designated as follows: (EAB) E=Extra/A=Destination Call sign /B=Direction Example EFK1 (Extra, Franklin, Eastbound

 

 

6). COMMUNICATIONS

Jersey Northern uses FRS channels 1 through 22. Normal channels are Road CH 5 Yard CH6.

6A) All engineers shall contact the dispatcher for clearance to depart any point and upon arrival.

6B) All engineers shall contact the Franklin Yardmaster for clearance to enter the yard limits.

6C) All engineers shall contact the Port Jervis Yardmaster for clearance to enter the

yard limits.

8). Train Movement

Carcards, waybills and train orders govern all car movements. All stations are equipped with a waybill holder. The holder contains a pocket for each industry and track. When setting out a car, turn the waybill to the next move  (number in upper right corner 1-4). Place the carcard with waybill into the pocket for the corresponding industry and track.  If your orders do not call for pickups, then proceed when cleared by Dispatch. If your orders call for pickups, check all pockets for cars going to points your train serves. Take the carcard / waybill and place it with your train. Place the car in to your train.

 

9). Safety:

9A) Brakes must be set on the OB/SA branch.

9B) All propane tank cars must be separated by one car from all ignition sources and cabooses.

9C) When switching Sparta L.P., the gate must be closed and locked when completed.

9D) All switches shall be returned to Normal when moves have been completed,

9F) All block controls shall be returned to the OFF position when moves have been completed.

 

10). Misc.

10A) All trains except OST must use a caboose.

10B) All uncoupling magnets are marked with a White post with Red top.

10C). Hands are permitted for minor derailments and uncoupling assistance.
