Qualifications,
Honors, and Achievements:
Alvin C. Carr began
martial arts training in the Korean art of Tang Soo Do
Karate in 1996,
under Mr. Larry Worrell, 3rd Dan. Mr. Worrell, student of
Master Seok Seo
Myung, 7th Dan, received training at Myung’s Institute of
Tang Soo Do of Waldorf, Maryland
ascending to green belt level before
Mr. Worrell subsequently
accepted a transfer of employment and
discontinued his
instruction.
Mr. Carr was eager
to continue his training, and in 2001 was invited to
study at Shelton
Martial Arts in Odenton, Maryland. Under the instruction
of Master Larry
E. Shelton, 5th Dan, Mr. Carr resumed his training in Tang
Soo Do now with
his three sons. Under the tutelage of Master Larry
Shelton, Mr. Carr
earned his Midnight Blue (Black) Belt in Tang Soo Do.
The following year, in addition to his personal training, Mr. Carr was
invited to undertake
the role of assistant instructor with the privilege of
teaching the junior
students. Employment commitments forced a brief
hiatus from training.
In 2005, Mr. Carr
began Okinawa Kenpo & Kobudo Karate training under
Kyoshi Sensei Marcus
DeValentino, director of DeValentino Shudokan
Schools International
(DSSI) and student of Grand Master Odo of
Okinawa, Japan. Kyoshi DeValentino recognized Mr. Carr’s Midnight
Blue Belt and offered
him the opportunity to earn his Black Belt in
Okinawa Kenpo Karate
& Kobudo. Mr. Carr diligently pursued his
training, and earned
his Black Belt, 1st Dan, in October of 2005. Mr. Carr
is 1st
Dan in Tang Soo Do and 1st Dan in Okinawa Kenpo karate &
Kobudo. Kyoshi sensei DeValentino invited Sensei Carr to become branch
director of the
DSSI School in Crofton, MD. Sensei
Carr established Carr’s
Martial Arts &
Fitness, LLC, a proud member of DSSI and the National
Karate & Kobudo
Federation.
