Guidelines for term paper:

Your term paper should address the following questions:

  • What question are you trying to answer?
That is, express the topic of your paper as a question, on the order of "How do computers affect X?" Then explain why this is an important issue.
  • What are the effects of X?
Lay out the positive and negative effects, as described in your research.
  • What is the body of evidence, and which way does it point?
That is, what techniques do the authors use to put forth the argument? Do they argue from example? from experiments and case studies? from the general to the particular? from the particular to the general? Is the evidence consistent? conflicting? Who provides the evidence? In particular, what references do they use, if any, and how credible are those references? (Are they from reputable journals, from hearsay, etc.?) Do the conclusions follow from the argument? If so, how? If not, why not?
  • What can you conclude from this evidence?
Are computers good for X? If so, why? If not, why not?
