Center Fire Station

The Town has maintained this handsome fire station, built in the 1920’s, to serve the west end of Town.  It, along with the station in the Hills, provides both fire and EMT services to the community.  The third station located on Walnut Street has closed.  After years of debate, the Walnut Street Station is now being converted into 3 housing units, one of which is affordable. On this site once stood the West Needham School, originally built in 1844. The Class of 1874 consisted of two students, one of whom was Katharine Lee Bates, a professor at Wellesley College, author of “America the Beautiful” and the namesake of Bates School.
