Halloween

I love Halloween themed carvings!  Halloween provides a lot of creative material for ideas to sculpt in wood.  Here are only a few basic creations of pumpkins and phantoms!

Here are a few unpainted pumpkins!  I used wet pine wood to carve these pumpkins, added a stem as a separate piece, and used a wood burner to burn in the face and eyes.  I typically vary the expressions on the faces so that no two are exactly alike.  I DO find that people tend to like and buy the pumpkins that have a devilish smile instead of a mean, demonic look!

This looks like the Pennsylvania Dutch Class of 2006 photo!  I carved several phantoms (ghosts) just prior to Halloween.  Like the pumpkins, I carved the phantoms out of pine wood and strived to vary the facial expressions on the phantoms.  No two are exactly alike!  I also included a finished pumpkin as part of the group photo to offset all of the white!
