Carl Linnaeus created the 'Linnaean Classification System' which we use to classify living things back in the 1700’s.   Since his discovery scientists are constantly placing new organisms into this classification system as new species arise.  If you saw this organism:

could you place it in the correct kingdom?  I will give you a clue, it’s an animal.  Surprised?  Today, over a million different kinds of animals have been classified and scientists think that there may be millions of other species that have yet to be discovered.  Below you will find the six kingdoms used in today’s classification system.

  1. Archaebacteria
  2. Eubacteria
  3. Protista
  4. Fungi
  5. Plantae
  6. Animalia
