I
was so blessed this weekend when I had the opportunity to meet Miss Cathy… now I know your all asking who Miss Cathy
is… so let me tell you a bit about her.
Miss
Cathy and her family were touched by what some may say was the worst or best natural disaster of 2005 yet… the hurricanes
that ravished the Gulf Coast. She is a woman wise
beyond her years with a heart that out sizes even the great whale in Jonah’s story, and now she finds herself nurturing the lives of her six adopted grandchildren from different homes as they
travel this path of rebuilding their lives together. The realization that they
have been blessed through the church by being relocated to Pennsylvania and given a home to live in for a year makes her and
her family quite grateful, the recognition of so many who have reached out and given Miss Cathy and her six delightful grandchildren
things that they could have never imagined having in their homes previously has truly been a blessing, the belief that the
Lord has lifted them up as a family during this tenuous time is confirmation enough that GOD is GOOD!!! in their lives and
ours.
As
to how I met Miss Cathy... well that is truly being led by the spirit indeed. Upon looking for a space heater through
an online recycling group I came upon Miss Cathy and she was kind enough to respond to my request and offer me a heater
for my home, even when she has so little. Of course I asked her if there was
anything I could do for her and she explained their current situation with transportation, electrical issues in the home they
are living in and gifts for the younger children (as the older ones declined gifts, admiringly
so). Immediately I knew I was lead to this woman, lead by the spirit of the Lord
to reach out and help her in this time of need as so many other have helped me in years gone by. And so I am…
I’m not
asking you to take away from yourselves or your families this Christmas Season… I am asking that you stop for just a
moment and think of a way you can give… Give something to a family that
has seen disaster first hand and has watched their lives be washed away… be it so small as a prayer in your service….
Forget them not during this season… when we were not forgotten.
