1973 Datsun Autism Awareness 570Z
|
My car is now the Autism Awareness 570Z. My daughter Juliette is autistic and she loves cars and loves
to go with me wherever I take the Z, so I decided I should use it to help promote autism awareness. It now has puzzle pieces
which have become the symbol of autism as well as autism awareness decals. The autism awareness decals are a little small,
so if you can get me larger one's please let me know. More pictures and information to come soon.
We go to many shows and events in the southern California area, so if you see us please stop by and say hello.

This web site is dedicated to the restomod project of my 1973 Datsun 240Z. According to Wikipedia a
restomod places some portions of the car as they were when the car was first offered for sale, and changes(updates) others.
As you will find on this site, there will be a lot of changes done on this project!
The 240 in 240Z refers to the engine size (240 for 2400 cubic centimeters). Since I put in a 5700 cc
engine, I refer to my car as a 570z!
The picture above shows my car as it sits on September 26, 2009.

9-8-09 - It's mostly back together now. Just need to finsh up some interior pieces and polish it up a bit
more..
8-19-09 - I've been putting everything back together, and I just had to roll her out of the garage and take
a picture. I'm very happy with the results so far. I'm going to try and color sand this weekend.

8-17-09 - It's painted!
7-27-09 - It's getting really close to paint. I hope all this time and effort spent getting it ready will pay off
once it's painted!

Show Results
So I'm happy with the reactions of the show attendees at the JCCS. I didn't like the way the people running the
show reacted to my car...but it's their show. I don't think a Chevy V8 powered car is their idea of a Japanese Classic
Car.
I went to the Temecula Rod Run this last weekend, and again the show attendees seemed to really like my car. I
think they were more open to my car even though it wasn't what most people would consider a typical hot rod.

Almost Ready for JCCS
It polished up better...but it's not perfect. I'll keep working on it this week and then drive it to Irvine on
Saturday for the JCCS show. We'll see what people think at the show.

Getting it Together
It's mostly put together now, I just need to finish up a couple items here and there. The polishing didn't come
out as well as I thought. I noticed it when I moved it out to get some better pictures. I'll have to polish it
more and try to improve the results.

It's Painted!
Finally shot the paint on Sunday. It took most of the day to actual shoot the blue, then the silver, then mask
off and shoot the black, then shoot clear over everything. There's still some work left including color sanding, polishing
and putting everything back together.

Almost Painted
I got up yesterday morning thinking I would have the car painted before the end of the day, but a couple of imperfections
made me change my plans. Everything should be resolved this week, so I'm hoping to have it painted next weekend.
