What is Reiki?
Reiki is a type of energy healing* in which Universal
Life Force energy, "Ki" (also known as "chi" or "prana"), is channeled for the purpose of balancing, relaxation, and healing. It is similar to spiritual healing and advanced Chi Kung (Qi Gong) energy projection. Like some other forms of alternative healing such as acupuncture and accupressure, it involves encouraging the flow of the recipient's personal energy to release energy blockages, but it also involves the channeling of energy at different frequencies. The Reiki practitioner channels universal energy, like a conduit, into the recipient by placing hands
lightly on or slightly above the recipient's affected area or energy center. Unlike Qi Gong, however, the practitioner does
not use their own personal energy reserves and therefore does not get depleted while giving Reiki. Through Reiki, one can heal on the spiritual and emotional levels as well as the physical
as Reiki goes where it is needed in order to create energetic balance.
Reiki is not massage. Reiki sessions do not involve physical manipulation
of muscle or tissues and a recipient does not remove clothing. An entire Reiki session can be conducted without physical contact
with the sender hovering hands a few inches above the recipient or even at great distances since Reiki
is energy and not limited by time and space.
Reiki is not a religion. People of any belief system can give or receive Reiki and it has
nothing to do with religious dogma. Reiki is energy. Everything is made of and interacts with energy, regardless
of belief systems or personal perception.
There are
many different styles of Reiki that have developed and there is much contrast in historical information, hand positions, and
even the use of symbols between different styles, but regardless of whichever style one works with, they operate by the same
principles and utilize the same healing, loving, Reiki energy.
On the simplest
level, Reiki sessions can be relaxing and stress reducing. On a deeper level it can be cleansing, healing, and even life-changing.
Reiki practitioners are channeling energy to areas that need it and the body can use this energy to do the healing on its
own. Reiki energy will go where it is needed and facilitate self healing.
During a Reiki
session, one may feel warmth, tingling, pulsing, a breeze, a sense of peacefulness... depending on your personal sensitivity
to subtle energy and depending on the amount/flow of Reiki to the area. Regardless of how the energy is felt or not felt,
it is there, and it moves where it is needed. One does not have to feel it or even believe in it for it to work.
