Anime Mid-Atlantic returns for its tenth year! AMA 10 will be held on June
11-13, 2010 at the Chesapeake Conference Center in Chesapeake, Virginia.
Norfolk Marriott Chesapeake
725 Woodlake Drive
Chesapeake, VA 23320
The AMA web site says that the rate will be $129 a night. We called the hotel but they didn't have the rate yet.
AMA 2009 was a laid back fun filled weekend!
We arrived Thursday evening. Check in at the hotel was smooth and friendly, although the kiosk machines were not working.
We grabbed a cart and took our stuff up to the room then headed over to the convention center.
Pre-registration was running late and we got into line. A few minutes later they asked anyone with last names R-U-S to
come up as those were the only ones they had. A perfect match for us and we quickly got our badges and bags.
We went over to ops and checked in for our two panels, wandered around the convention center for a few minutes then back
to the hotel for the evening.
Friday morning the video rooms were running late, but we got in some viewing and then headed for the dealer’s room.
The dealer’s room opened right on time! There were a fair number of dealers, but not what I would call a lot. Still,
all the usual stuff was there and we found some anime we had been looking for.
The art show offered some good works as did the artists alley.
The video game room had the usual games plus a cool slot machine!
The AMV show was flawless! Starting right on time with a little cosplay skit to start of the show on Friday. Some great
AMVs! AMA is lucky to have Bryan running this show. His hard work and dedication are really evident in the presentation of
the AMV contest and AMV panels.
The Eyeshine concert started on time and Johnny and his band took the stage with great energy and good lights. Unfortunately,
the mix was very very poor with the bass drum overpowering both guitars and the vocals coming out distorted through over-driven
speakers. Very bad considering the talent that this group has to offer.
The Masquerade started right on time as did all the major events we attended. We really got a laugh out of the tech guy
that freaked out and started yelling when Beelzenef adjusted one of the microphones on stage.
We had a great group for “Are You a Werewolf?” and played until around 1:30 AM.
I was really impressed with the ops guy who showed up to set up our DVD player for “The Ten Funniest AMVs of All
Time!” and we had a good crowed for some laughs on Sunday morning.
Overall, a nice relaxed convention. Lots of fun events, good art, good AMVs, good music, and great fun! The Hamptons Convention
Center is a great place for a con and should give AMA lots of room to grow.
My sincere thanks to Ed and everyone who gave up their time so we could all play and have fun.
