To start with this is a fully operational Yamaha PSR-11. All the original functins work as far as I have been able to determine and the bends do not cause problems for any of them. Full sized keyboard with a nice feel. It was missing the battery cover and I fabricated a replacement. Not as nice as the original but does the job (pic on far left). Because I pulled the speaker out for the bends I am including a separate speaker from an old boom box (for someone who might not have one handy. Output is a 1/8" mono jack I added.
The bends. To start with I added a number of contact points (center photo) that will effect the pitch and other sounds changes.
I added a joystick -- top trigger for side to side and front trigger for front to back. If no trigger then bends not activated. Will admit that this was a bit of a test and in future I will probable link it to a patch bay -- next time perhaps. The bends it is linked to will give static/distortion and sort of chaotic results
The silver knob is a stepper motor wired up to activate a pressed key. The red button turns this bend on. Spinning the knob (and spins very freely as is out of an old hard disk) will activate the note from the pressed key repeatedly. It is an interesting bend and have been investigating different ways to use it (see other circuit bent items I will be posting).
It was an interesting project and resulted in a fair number of neat noises. Will be doing more with both the joystick and stepper motor in future.
