First of what I hope to be more (and progressively improved) electric lyres. For the sound sample I had it tuned the 12 string in the the key of C and started at A and going through C (again probable not spot on for those with a good ear). My interest was to have an instrument with a long sustain that I could put through an effects amp box. I like the blending that results. Since I was planning to use the effects box I did not put any volume or tone controls on the lyre (at this point in time can't really see a reason to though that opinion may change).
For those interested in general dimentions it is (approximately) 34" hight, 14" across top and 7" across bottom and 1" thick.
Padded cloth bag is included for storage.
Used standard electric guitar stings so replacement should be easy. Pickup is a single coil guitar pickup. Some hum but not much when your amp is adjusted. The scrap of wood used is either mahogony or walnut (not completely sure) though I tend to think mahogony. Left side support is a chromed steel square tube from a discarded store display rack as it the top piece. Right side support is a bathroom towel rack bar (again trash find).
Tuning is still a bit more hassel than I like. Loosen the nuts (10 mm) and then tighen them up just to snug. Use allen wrench to adjust nut to note. Hold allen wrench to prevent change of strings tune while tightening nuts. Did not include fine tuning provisions on this one though may on next. Need to have more of an angle on the top bracket so high note strings can be shorter. Unlike an acoustic where you can play games with bridge positioning you are pretty much stuck with your length with an electric.
