| A Carved Plaque |

|
| Carved with Carvewright |
Having made a pirate flag for Oceans-23, I felt the need to adapt it for real life. Above is a wood carving made
using the original POV-Ray definition of the Scull+Bone+Gun. After removing space-opera features, I re-rendered
the image as a height-map ... where near things are white, far things are black. Taking the height-map, I
used a CarveWright automatic carving machine to realize my image in wood as a 9"x11" plaque. A little painting later,
and I have a holiday sign just right for hanging on my front door for the weeks leading up to a great holiday.
| Servo Clock II |

|
| An original clock idea |
Using an SX microcontroller, two hobby servo motors and a wooden craft box I put together the above clock; which I call
the ServoClock II. The box measures 8.25"x6"x3.5" and has lots of open space inside. It
keeps reasonable time, though tends to "hang-up" every so often. I suspect my own limited electronic design capabilities,
and or my equally undeveloped soldering skills are the likely culprits.
| Big Bamboo Ball |

|
In April of 2008 I returned to one of my favorite hobbies -- making things with bamboo. The above ball is roughly
41" high, and is made with 6 foot bamboo fencing slats, joined with "zip" ties. It is just a prototype, and will likely
be redone twice as big (large enough to climb in), hopefully in time for summer gatherings. I have made a
few half sized balls with hemp cord to hold the bamboo strips. These look even nicer, and may become permanent parts
of my home decor.
