"1st Irish" Uniform and Gear

The 35th Indiana Infantry "1st Irish" were issued the standard army issue uniform of the period.  The only exception was the issue of an Emerald Green Kepi to set them apart from other military units in the army.  In 1862, the 61st Indiana Infantry "2nd Irish" failed to complete it's quota of men and the men from this unit were transferred to the 35th Indiana Infantry.  The uniform of the 61st Indiana included the green kepi, but they also had special uniforms they wore.  A Chassuer coat with green trimming was given to these men as well as dark federal blue trousers.  Most of these 61st men carried this special uniform over into the 35th Indiana.  The most dominantly used uniform was never changed over and the men ended up wearing the standard uniform of the Union army.
Though some of our membership owns the Chassuer uniform, it's not required for membership within our ranks.  Listed below is the uniform and gear that you will need for this hobby as well as items needed to fit into the ranks of the 1st Irish.
Unfortunately, this hobby can become expensive, with your initial cost running close to $1000.00 for your basic uniform and equipment needs.  On the brighter side, the 35th Indiana gives it's members 2 years to obtain all of their basic equipment and uniform items.  For the first 2 years, members will help new members by loaning gear and equipment to them as long as the new member understands that they need to take care of them.  The 35th doesn't expect anyone to go straight out and buy all of the items needed at once, unless you can afford it.  It took the webmaster 2 years and I still don't have everything after 9 years in the hobby.  The extra stuff can be bought later.  New members can also consult our membership with help of finding good deals and things they need to watch out for that is considered farbie in the hobby.
