Blue Ridge Birders
Since 1997 Blue Ridge Birders
have brought together a loose affiliation of persons from a few high country counties in northwest North Carolina and southwest
Virginia who have interests in birds and their welfare. The BRB membership ranges from persons who keep extensive lists and
travel to see new birds to those whose birding is limited to their backyards and immediate surroundings. Club activities include:
monthly birding trips; extended weekend trips; sponsoring birding educational programs in Virginia and North Carolina elementary
schools; helping girl scouts with birding activities; participating in three Christmas bird counts (Mount Jefferson, New River,
and Mount Rogers/Whitetop); and conducting spring (Bullhead Mountain) and fall (Mahogany Rock) hawk watches. As conservation
issues arise we lend our voice and efforts to aid in preserving habitat and bird life. In order to communicate between members
we have quarterly meetings, produce a quarterly newsletter, and maintain the list serve JK
