Wide Open

[WRITER'S NOTES]
This song was born out of emotions that had no other place else to go. Raven had lost her father in 2004. Her significant other had a massive stroke in 2006, and the straw that broke the camel's back was losing her 5-year-old cat Gandalf in 2008, to a congenital heart condition.

Wide Open was born in the moment when she could no longer contain the grief that had long been held back, for her father, and her partner - Gandalf's parting gift was allowing the floodgates of her grief to break open... This is what was born in that flood of emotion...
This is the very first rough recording of this song. A demo is forthcoming...

Wide Open
[lyrics]

When you left the door wide open,

I thought that you’d be back.

But sometimes we don’t get second chances,

and that’s the simple fact.

The angry words I’d spoken

were only cause you’d broken my heart, again...again...

Now I find I’m drifting -

so lost inside myself.

There’s only empty space around me

And I’m not as strong as you think -

I’m starting to sink...Deeper and deeper...

All the things I’d meant to tell you...

Things I wanted you to know.

Simple things like how I loved

walking in the new fallen snow, with you.... with you...

Your coat still hangs by stairs -

Oh tell me, darling - where are you now?

I know you’re here and everywhere,

but I just can’t see how...

And if I climbed a mountain,

could I find you there?

Would I feel you all around me,

your spirit in the air?

Will you wait for me?

Will you see the world through me?

Will you hold my heart in your hands –

Keep it safe till we’re together again...again...?

I can hear you calling – “Baby, grieve for me,

Just let it out, just let it out,

and claim that sweet release...

Just let it out, just let it out,

and claim that sweet release...

Tears will wash away the pain,

And no you might not ever be the same again

But know that sun will continue to shine -

And somewhere there’s a soul waiting for you -

on the other side of time.

I can hear you calling – “Baby, grieve for me,

Just let it out, just let it out,

and claim that sweet release...

Just let it out, just let it out,

and claim that sweet release...

When you left the door wide open,

I thought that you’d be back.

But sometimes we don’t get second chances,

and that’s the simple fact...

I’ll always love you...

It’s a simple fact...I’ll always love you...

I’ll always love you...
