Henry Poole Is Here

[WRITER'S NOTES]
This is a song I wrote while facing an uncertain medical diagnoses - There was a contest on MySpace to write a song for the film Henry Poole is Here - about a man facing an illness and possibly his own death; you can imagine the parallels the theme of Henry Poole has had for me... I'm still facing medical challenges and a couple of surgeries but writing and singing this song has been cathartic like I can't explain and given me the opportunity to prepare emotionally for the challenges ahead...This is the sound of my hope. I'm sending it out in love and hope to anyone who is facing the uncertainties that life hands us. Hope you find some light in it.

HENRY POOLE IS HERE [lyrics]
When everything you've ever loved has fallen away;
The torment of facing even one more day,
Has overfilled your cup with salty tears -
And the years loom ahead like a wasteland...
You can't escape and you ask yourself
"What's the point of being here, anyway?"

Well baby, I've been there before,
And lemme tell you what I've learned...
While you might be able to run, you just can't hide
From all the pain that you're keeping
Locked away inside...
Well believe me when I tell you...
Nobody understands the nature
of the emotional shipwreck
With more clarity than I do --
But Grace is a pocket-sized miracle
That you can hold oh so tightly onto...
Just when you got yourself believin'
That you can't take another step -
Something down deep inside tells you
that you've got just a little more,
a little more left.
Hang on...Hang On...HANG ON!

You might think that miracles
Are far and few between --
But I know that things aren't always
What they seem to be...and Hope -
Hope is a rope with a knot tied on one end,
The other side firmly fastened
To the hand of a friend
Who refuses to let you slip away...
Quietly, adrift on your sea,
your sea of misery
Well there's a lesson to be learned
in facing what you fear -
Hang on, baby now,
Cause Henry Poole is here.
Understand that it's never,
never too late
To find some hope;
and feel just a little bit of faith
No matter what you think is true
Love will always...
always find its way back to you
Well there's a lesson to be learned,
in facing what you fear -
just hang on now, baby - hang on, now...
Cause Henry Poole is... here -
Henry Poole is here!
