Georeferenced and Georeferencing Historical Topo Maps |
| Old topographical maps are a very useful tool to locate sites to hunt with a metal detector. Old home, school and town sites are there just waiting for us to find them. I always wanted to be able to locate a site on these old historical topo maps and then enter the coordinates of the site into my GPS. Once in the field, I can use the GPS to lead me right to that site. The maps I have are .JPG files from scans. You can view them with any imaging software, but I want to load them into the DLGviewer and get UTM coordinates of a posibble site. To do this you need to georeference the maps. |
