Coin Macro Close up Photos

One of the best things about a digital camera is the ability to
take photos of your coins. These photos can be filed away as proof
of ownership for insurance purposes. Photos can also show detail that
cannot be seen by the naked eye, leading to discoveries of mint errors
and varieties. Grading of coins may also become easier to do with a detailed blowup of the coin in question.

Some General tips for coins photos:  
1) use a tripod
2) use good lighting
3) practice
 

Most cameras will give you good results with the macro settings.
For others, buying an add on macro lens will give you good results.
I have been using a reversed 50mm lens on my Canon G3 to take
coin photos. Some examples are shown below.
