Analog Wireless Lighting System
DMX Wireless Lighting System

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is the system just for DJs?

No way...that's just how we started.  We've had rock bands, magicians, church youth groups and hotel lounges all tell us that the ability to offer theatrical lighting that is portable and can store in a closet is exactly what they need.

So I can order just the towers?

Right...install your own fixtures or order the truss already pre-rigged with our standard wireless or DMX lighting system.  Many of our customers have installed intelligent fixtures...as long as they fit within a 14" x 14" square!  As a matter of fact, you can order extra towers to expand your show...or have multiple set-ups for owners with multiple shows.

What finishes are available?

You can order either the natural aluminum finish which is great for parties, school dances, hotels  (as a matter of fact..the aluminum reflects the lighting and looks terriffic).  The towers are also available in powder coated black satin for a tough, long lasting finish. Black is the most popular finish...great for weddings and formal parties.  Other colors are available...just inquire.

Do the towers fit in an SUV?

Yes...we've tried them in trailers, minivans and SUVs.  We have a Ford Explorer, and you can stack then on top of each other and close the rear hatch with the back and middle seats down.

What lamp (light bulb) do I use in the PAR 38 fixtures?

We chose the PAR 38's because they have a standard light bulb socket.  We've used standard light bulbs in a pinch, but standard 40-100 watt flood lamps work best.

Do the PAR 38's come with bulbs?

No.  You choose the best bulb and wattage for you.

Do the PAR 38's com with gels?

No, but the gel frame is included.  There are so many gel colors to choose from, we can't decide for you.  You can order a pack of standard gel colors along with your tower order.

Do the towers come with power cords?

Not at this time.  We're trying to keep the price down, and we don't know if this is something most people already have. A standard 3-pronged extension cord will plug into the flush-mount receptacle on the back of the relay pack on each tower.  We recommend using  cords that have a lighted end so that you can tell if your tower has power.

How do I secure the towers for rolling in and out?

It depends on how you are going to transport the towers.  We use 5' x 10' trailers with drop-down rear doors.  We just keep one 10' tower on top of the other with the casters up, covered with the optional fleece "toaster" covers with a  4' rubber bungee cord on each end holding them together.  We just roll them out of the trailer and into the venue.  Most people will probably stack the two main sections with the middle and bottom sections on top.  (Like the picture on our main page).  There's not a best way to do it, but you can use bungee cords, etc to keep everything in place as you roll in and out.  Some of our customers have even asked us to include holes in the end frames so that they can bolt the sections in place for rolling in and out.

How does the wireless freqency/signal work?

Elation offers two  AM frequencies for the analog wireless system.  They designate them "green" or "yellow".  We match how ever many towers you order with the correct transmitter.  If you already own one of our systems and you want to order additional towers, just look on the side of the transmitter or receiver units that are plugged into the control unit or relay packs.  You will see a green or yellow sticker.  This will let us know what frequency you will need on your towers.

Our new DMX wireless systems can transmit/receive up to 512 DMX channels via UHF signal....all wirelessly and include a standard DMX controller  (Chauvet 40B).  Both towers are matched to the frequency of the transmitter/controller and will both will function as one.  There are six user-selectable frequencies on each transmitter/receiver.

Are there any extra outlets left on the relay pack for extra fixtures?

Yes.  The relay packs have eight channels.  There are two standard 110-115V outlets for each channel.  The PAR's use three channels, both outlets.  The Vertigo, Strobe and Mini-Moon use a channel each, one outlet. There is an extra outlet on each of these three big fixture channels, but only have power when you turn on the Vertigo, Strobe or Mini-Moon. There is one channel left to plug in a fog machine from the middle section and one extra channel to use for an extra fixture or power supply for a camera.  Both of these extra channels have two outlets.

Our new DMX systems don't have a relay pack as above.  All fixtures are daisy-chained from the receiver.  You can add additional fixtures just by daisy chaining onto an existing fixture in the towers.  There is an additional outlet in each power pack.  The power pack supplies power for each fixture. Each fixture is individually plugged into the pack making it easy to replace a fixture.

How much do the towers weigh?

Each 10' tower weighs a total of 38 pounds empty.  They weigh 72 pounds each fully loaded with light fixtures.  The bases weigh 6 pounds each.

Is the girl an option?

Very funny......no, sorry, our model Kristen does not come with our systems...but if you see our booth at a convention...she might be there.  She thanks all of you for your nice comments!
