air pollution control by London fallstm (lfok)

This is the new deceptively simple Pumpless Scrubber type the LFok that eradicates Air Pollution by High Efficiency of Cleansing with Cost-Effective combinations of Energy Recovery, Fire Suppression, Water Pollution Prevention, and Hygiene and Safety provisions.

The multi-functional LFok offers customary opportunities for designing gas-cleaning systems that increase processing capacity, recover resources, reduce energy requirements, and provides fire suppression and water pollution prevention.

The engineering concept of the system is based exclusively on the Aero-Hydro-Dynamic Principles, without any energy using devices or electrical motors, moving parts, pumps, nozzles, baffles, air or water filters makes the ATI dependable and reliable

The stable efficiency and wide field of utilization, comprehensive range of operation at minimal initial and operational costs, space saving and long-term performance, are peculiarities of the LFok technology.

This is a dependable highly efficient self-contained pumpless system. The carefully engineered deceptively simple and space saving structure consists of two sheet metal boxes:

  1. Air Turbo-Impactor ATI and,
  2. Open-to-the-atmosphere Sludge Collector – SC

The ATI and SC are hydraulically interconnected on the principle of the “communicating vessels”. Air cleaning liquid could be water, oil, chemical or physical solutions.

The absence of intricate shaped surfaces or narrow air passages prevents cloggings. Cleaning, costly repairs and shutdowns are eliminated.

The LFok system is filled with water (or other applicable liquid) to the certain static level. After the exhaust fan is turned-on the aerodynamic force of the airflow circulates a "water-fall capture process" through the centrifugally shaped air-water passage in the ATI, where the contaminated air and water are involved in the intense, continuous, and consequent stages of trade-offs: air venturi inlet, impaction on the liquid surface, centrifugal separation, intermixing, dynamic liquid curtains, and abrupt expansion outlet.

Air resistance of the ATI falls within 2 to 3 inches of water gage.

The contaminated air, passing through the ATI, creates for itself the dynamic and high-density continuous liquid stream, which performs the air purification. The contaminated air is dispersed on small particles. The smaller air particles the more efficient contact with liquid, the higher purifying efficiency. The centrifugal force, exerted by rapid changes in direction of airflow, causes contaminants to penetrate the liquid stream and to become permanently trapped. Then the purified air leaves the ATI.

The contaminated water flows strictly into the SC. Thus, the trapped matter is removed from confined space of the ATI into the safe and always accessible containment – the open Sludge Collector. This concept uniquely facilitates a non-hazardous waste disposal, and does not require the entire drainage of the system, preventing the water pollution.

A quiet, laminar liquid flow in the SC allows sufficient contaminants separation or chemical reactions. Unlike the confined sludge collectors of the conventional systems the open-to-the-atmosphere SC is accessible at any time.

Then the clarified liquid flows to the ATI for the next air cleaning cycle.

The air movement constitutes this repeatedly continuous liquid recirculation. Therefore no need for circulating pumps, which are necessities in the conventional systems.

Because the liquid is continually reused, its consumption is relatively negligible.

Unlike the conventional pollution control equipment the LFok in addition to air cleaning, capable of performing some of fire safety functions:

Fire or Explosion Prevention. As a result of originality the “flame water lock” - hydraulic trap, instituted by a static level of water in the ATI in none-operating time, cuts out a way of flame, smoke or fumes penetration into exhaust ducts.

Fire Suppression. In case of fire (operating time), the flame will be extinguished by means of the turbulent water vortex immediately upon the entry into the ATI.

Emergency Smoke Removal. In case there is a fire, the exhaust systems equipped with the ATI will sufficiently perform the function.

The LFok washes strictly the contaminated air excluding any types of filters. This is the essential difference in the concepts and qualities of action of the collecting trapped material on filters or electrodes, and then to clean them the deposits.

The great peculiarity of the LFok in comparison to the conventional pollution control equipment is the complete absence of electric power or fuel requirements.

Moreover, the LFok cools the air and therefore decreased it in the volume; thus, it saves on the fan motor energy consumption.

Absence of motors or other electrical devices, pumps or nozzles, air or liquid filters, moving or removable parts, mist eliminators, filters / baffles, and fire dampers completely eliminates cleaning, repairs and shutdowns.

The LFok is incomparable with overall dimensions of the conventional equipment.

The deceptively simple structure, considerably small overall dimensions, and the absence of adverse environmental impacts clearly differentiate the LFok from the conventional pollution control equipment, such as: bag filters, afterburners, catalytic and thermal oxidizers, electrostatic precipitators, wet collectors, and the like.

Unlike the conventional systems the multi-functional scrubber provides Air Purification, Fire Suppression, Explosion Prevention, Emergency Smoke Removal, Safe Containment of fire hazardous material, Water Recirculation, and Water Pollution Prevention.

Even long-term operations cannot influence the constant airflow capacity of the LFok.

The ATI recovers a heat from hot air and can transmit it to heat reclaim system.

While the conventional arresters are deprived of the uniform air suction the uniform airflow is the fundamental nature of the ATI.

The open-to-the-atmosphere Sludge Collector allows an easy access at any time, solving the crucial existing problem of removing entrapped matter from the confined sludge collecting spaces of conventional scrubbers.

To crown it all:

Air Purification, Fire Suppression, Explosion Prevention, Emergency Smoke Removal, Safe Containment of fire hazardous material, Water Recirculation, and Water Pollution Prevention are performed by one unit and accomplished with NO power, heat, or fuel requirements, NO filters, NO special fire suppression or explosion protection devices.

The principle simplicity of the LFok results in the lower cost, in dependable operation, and in free maintenance.
