Blood Knot

The Improved Blood Knot works well for joining two monofilament lines of relatively equal diameter.

Check out the Albright Knot or the Uni-to-Uni knot for other line joining applications

Step 1

1. Overlap the ends of the lines that are to be joined and twist them together for 10 turns.

Step 2

2. Separate the center twist and place the two tag ends through the loop created by the separation. Note: This step will be easier if the center loop is held open with the fingers or an object stuck through it as Step 1 is performed.

Step 3

3. Tighten the knot by securely holding the tag ends while pulling on the two standing lines. Wetting the knot area may ease the tightening process and will help to avoid line damage. Trim the tag ends to 1/8" - 1/4".
