Improved Clinch Knot

The Improved Clinch Knot is a popular knot that provides a relatively strong, reliable connection that resists slippage and is easy to tie. It is a good choice for joining monofilament line to swivels, snaps, hooks and lures.

This knot does not perform well when using braided lines. After getting wet and subject to stress, the knot has a tendency to slip and become untied after some time has elapsed.

Step 1

1. Thread the end of the line through the eye, then make 6 turns around the standing part of the line. Bring the free end of the line through the loop adjacent to the eye, then through the large loop as shown in the figure.

Step 2

2. Wet the knot area and pull on the tag end to draw up the coils. Then pull on the standing portion of the line to form a knot with the coils pressed neatly together and tight against the eye. Trim tag end 1/8" - 1/4".
