Rapala Loop Knot

The Rapala Loop knot is commonly used for tying line to a lure where lure action can be degraded by placement of conventional knots tightly against the eye and the bait does not respond well to a snap or split ring.

Step 1

1. Form an overhand knot loop in the line, leaving the tag end extending 5 to 6 inches. Do not tighten the overhand knot yet.

Step 2

2. Pass the tag end of the line through the eye of the lure, then through the loop created by the overhand knot, as shown in the illustration.

Step 3

3. Make 3 or 4 turns around the standing part of the line with the tag end.

Step 4

4. Then bring the tag end around and pass it back through the loop created by the overhand knot, as shown in the illustration.

Step 5

5. Pass the tag end back through the larger loop created with step #4. Pull the knot down with steady pressure on the tag and while holding the standing part of the line (wetting the knot area may assist the tightening process and prevent line damage).

Step 6

6. Trim the tag end 1/8" - 1/4".
